JUNIOR WARDENS Summer 2019 Quarter 2 Report July The Summer started with a Gardening project for Redbridge Primary School. After the success of the Citizenship programme, we are continuing to support work with the school and the young people. We acquired an allotment space next door to the school and set about clearing it and getting it ready for use by the school. With help and support from Open Spaces team and YOS the Junior Wardens completed the first stage of the project. Rubbish removed, grass cut then the whole allotment was ploughed. The Juniors then worked with the Neighbourhood Wardens to build 5 brand new raised beds, a new decking area and repaired the shed to make it safe to use. Finally they mulched the area. July 2019

Quarter 2 July We had a fun day in Townhill as part of an Impact day. The Juniors were joined by some local children and SO18 Big local to help brighten an area in Benhams Rd, outside Townhill Juniors School. We were in charge of painting, both dragons teeth and a large mural to the end of the nearest block. The Neighbourhood Wardens tidied, painted, jetwashed and built a new roundabout feature, while we worked on something more artistic. In Central we had 2 projects running. One was in Ventnor Court, working with the Neighbourhood Wardens, Plants For People and Open Spaces to clear, clean and re-plant the residents garden. We also made some bird boxes and bee hotels to go up in some of the trees to promote the wildlife to visit the garden. The second project took place in Golden Grove, doing a walk- ing Battle Bus, clearing, cleaning, litter picking and gardening, to improve multiple areas. Both went really well with a slightly early finish for Golden Grove due to terrible weather. July / August 2019

Quarter 2 August The Junior Wardens had their annual Sports Day, this year joined by local children and SO18 Big Local. The weather held for us allowing the climbing, canoeing, archery, bushcraft, Nerf Wars and many other activities to go ahead. Everyone had a great day, especially when the Icecream Van arrived. We had a great time at Sturminster House, painting an undersea mural for the residents and their children who also came down and helped out. This was made possible with the support from our contractors CLC and Dulux who donated paint and labour to whitewash both the inside and outside. I’m sure you’ll agree, it made a massive difference. Well done all.

Figures We now have a total of 123 Juniors across the city who are regularly engaging with the scheme. We have had a total of 4 new sign ups, 2 on the East, 2 on the West and 0 in Central. I do however have a number of signups in Central that have been waiting for my return. We have engaged with 6 projects, including our usual area projects, and are looking to next month for our Fire Station visit and in November, taking part in Memorial Sunday. Fairfax Intergen will be starting again at Fairfax Court and I am already in discussion with Activity Co- ordinators to work with Kanes Hill school for daytime interactions and getting young ones from the school to come to Intergen with their Grandparents. Watch this space!! We Had We now have 140 Facebook members, this equates to 100% of parents now on 85% our page and engaging regularly. Attendance We have an average of 65+ views per post and this still seems to be the best This Quarter way to communicate with parents. Down slightly due to Summer where people go away on holidays.
