Shang DynastyWriting- The Shang developed writing around 35,000 BCE. There aremany paintings found in a cave from about the time of the Shang.Bronze- The Shang used bronze to make sacred vessels which would beused for rituals. The Shang also used bronze to cast weapons.Religion- The Shang were polytheistic and believed in many gods. Theyhad a thing called ancestor worship which was keeping their ancestors happy.If they made their ancestors unhappy they believed that they would punishthem.Oracle Bones- The Shang used oracle bones were used for divination. Afortune teller would carve symbols and burn them and it would tell themabout the future.
Zhou DynastyMandate of Heaven- It was an idea that there could only be one ruler at a time, and that theruler had the blessing of the gods. They used it to overthrow the Shang.Confucius- He was the creator of confucianism. He was born in 551 BCE. He made a bookcalled the analects.Zhou Classes- The classes went emperor, nobles, peasants, artisans, merchants, and slaves.They followed a strict order of social classes.Decline of Zhou- The Zhou came during the Warring States period in 256 BCE. The Zhoucame to an end when the Zhou leader, King Nan, was killed.
Qin DynastyLegalism- Legalism was a strict law that humans are inclined to doing bad and that theyneed to be punished. It was Hanfeizi who created legalism.Standardization- The Qin ordered everyone to write in the script of the Qin. The leaderswanted everyone to know their orders.Great Wall- The great wall was built to keep invaders out. It is 5,500 miles long.Shi Huangdi- Shi Huangdi was the founder of the Qin dynasty. He was born in 259 BCEand ruled for 11 years in the Qin.End of the Qin- The Qin ended in 207 BCE. There was a war with Liu Bang and Xiang Yu,and Liu Bang lost.
Han DynastyWu Di- His original name was Liu Che. He began his reign in 141 BCE. He Wudi madeConfucianism.Han Contributions- They made Legalism and writing. The Han made the Great Wall. Theyalso expanded a network of roads and canals.Silk Road- It was a trade route that linked China to the west. The Silk Road was mainlyused for trading silk. The silk road is 4,350 miles long.Liu Bang- He was the first emperor of the Han. He rebelled against the Qin dynasty in221-207 BC. He reigned from 202-195 BCE.
