Grandfather is an odd but lovely. One day in the market, he buys a young python that he sees from the Snake Charmer. Alas, when they bring the python home, Grandmother lets out an ungodly scream, and says it must be sent packing. Try though they might, the python keeps coming home and becomes a reluctant part of the family. But what scrapes will young Ruskin get into with a python as a pet? And how does one take care of the python when you also have a parrot and a monkey?
• The python appears under the cushion which changes the duration of Aunt Mabel’s stay. • Grandfather and the narrator discover the weakness of the python which was a mirror in which the python loved to see its own reflection. • Grandfather builds an extraordinary trap for capturing the python which included a trap with mirror and some delicacies for the python. • Grandfather manages to capture the python and leaves the python free near the river. • The python doesn’t want to leave the cage as it is in love with its own reflection.
“Animals have simple needs, and all they want is to be left alone. We are the interlopers.” ― Ruskin Bond, The Jungle Omnibus
