CONTINENTAL GT NUMBER 9 EDITION BY MULLINER Continental GT NEDC drive cycle: fuel consumption, mpg (l/100km) – Combined 23.3 (12.1). Combined CO2 – 278 g/km.
Step into an exceptionally rare car. With sleek lines, unrivalled power and cutting-edge technology, the new Continental GT redefines what a car can be. In 1929, the Bentley Blower did exactly the same. Originally created by Sir Henry ‘Tim’ Birkin, a racing driver with a passion for speed, it saw a supercharger added to a Bentley for the very first time, enabling the phenomenal 4½ Litre to reach a whole new level of performance. Now, the team at Mulliner has created a Limited Edition of the new Continental GT inspired by Birkin’s own Blower – the No. 9. As a celebration of Bentley’s first 100 years, only 100 of these remarkable cars will ever be built. Welcome to the Continental GT Number 9 Edition by Mulliner. 4 Breathtaking by design. The new Continental GT’s 6.0 litre W12 engine delivers exhilarating performance which would have delighted Tim Birkin. These breathtaking capabilities are reflected in the car’s sculptural form. Long, low and sharp-edged, its dramatic new interpretation of the Bentley design language evokes a sense of both speed and strength. The Continental GT Number 9 Edition by Mulliner takes this striking look to new heights with a first look at the new Viridian paint colour, a modern take on the traditional racing green. Alternatively, you can opt for Beluga, a deep luxurious black. To add to the rarity of the design, 22\" Mulliner Driving Specification wheels are given an exclusive painted finish, either matching the exterior of the car, or contrasting it with the alternative paint colour. An 18-carat gold-plated Mulliner Number 9 badge provides the perfect finishing touch. Continental GT NEDC drive cycle: fuel consumption, mpg (l/100km) – Combined 23.3 (12.1). Combined CO2 – 278 g/km.

The craftsmanship of today, inspired by yesterday. The cabin of the new Continental GT is a space unlike any other. With the finest materials and remarkable levels of contemporary craftsmanship, it is designed to cocoon you in unparalleled comfort that makes even the longest journey a pleasure. The Continental GT Number 9 Edition by Mulliner takes this refined interior and adds a range of exquisite details inspired by the No. 9 Blower. The centre console features a turned aluminium Engine Spin finish that was popular in racing cars in the 1920s and 30s, as well as Grand Black veneers that sweep around the cabin on the fascias and waistrails. The passenger fascia is adorned with a striking Mulliner number 9 overlay. Inset into the console is an exclusive British Jaeger clock face that took the clock in the No. 9 Blower as its starting point, while gold-plated organ stops nod to the switch gear found in Tim Birkin’s car. The result is something truly unique: a cabin that combines the exuberant racing spirit of a bygone era with the very highest levels of modern craftsmanship. 7 A piece of history in every car. The Continental GT Number 9 Edition isn’t just inspired by the No. 9 Blower, it even contains a piece of it: a part of the original wooden racing seat from Tim Birkin’s car. This priceless piece of Bentley history, meticulously removed during the original car’s restoration, is displayed within one of Bentley’s most recent innovations: the Bentley Rotating Display. Developed for the new Continental GT, a section of the veneered fascia physically rotates to show a high-resolution touchscreen, with a further rotation revealing three analogue dials. The historic piece of the racing seat is set in resin and proudly displayed in place of the central dial, available to view at the touch of a button. 8 Even the hides tell a story. The interior of the new Continental GT is upholstered by hand, using the finest leather hides that have been crafted in an intricate process involving skills that take years to learn. The heritage hides used in the Number 9 Edition are no exception. In addition, they have also been given a particular high-gloss finish that was popular in the cars of the 1920s and 30s. The Bentley Blower featured a debossed 'B' on the door pads, and this has also been included on the Number 9 Edition, both on the door pads and the headrests. For Bentley, and for Mulliner, every detail counts. Continental GT NEDC drive cycle: fuel consumption, mpg (l/100km) – Combined 23.3 (12.1). Combined CO2 – 278 g/km.
One man’s vision. The Bentley Boys and Bentley Girls were a group of wealthy, hedonistic British men and women who were obsessed with motor racing in the 1920s and 30s – and Sir Tim Birkin was particularly passionate about speed. Birkin was convinced that adding a supercharger to the formidable 4½ Litre was the way to enhance Bentley’s performance still further. W.O. Bentley disagreed, preferring to focus on increasing engine capacity. But Birkin was not going to be put off that easily. He commissioned British engineer Amherst Villiers to develop a supercharger that sat on the front of the engine. To fund the car’s production, he then enrolled the support of Bentley Girl and racehorse owner, the Hon. Dorothy Paget. The results were astonishing: the supercharger increased the power of the car from 130 bhp to 175 bhp.
Racing, supercharged. Bentley’s chairman Woolf Barnato was so impressed, he agreed the car could race under the Bentley name. And so the supercharged 4½ Litre was born. Often described as blowing air into the engine, it soon became known as the Bentley Blower. The Blower broke a series of speed records as it flew around the race tracks of England and France. In 1930, Tim Birkin himself set a lap record at Le Mans in his own Blower – the No. 9. Today, the spirit of that car lives on in each of the 100 Continental GT Number 9 Editions created by Mulliner.
The perfect partnership. The Mulliner name is an important part of the Bentley story. Originally saddlers in Elizabethan times, the Mulliner family started making carriages for the Royal Mail in 1760, before moving into the exciting new world of coachbuilding for automobiles at the end of the 19th century. In 1923, H.J. Mulliner exhibited a bespoke Bentley 3 Litre at the Olympia Show, and the connection between the two companies was born.
Today, Mulliner is an official part of the Bentley family, with its workshop located at the factory in Crewe. There, Mulliner designers, engineers and craftspeople create personal commissions that range from bespoke paint colours to coachbuilt bodies where the Bentley chassis becomes the starting point for something truly unique. Their unrivalled skills are immediately apparent in the extraordinary Continental GT Number 9 Edition by Mulliner, a car that encapsulates the twin passions of performance and craftsmanship that have driven Bentley for a century.
