The President was also accompanied by a large delegation of business, investment and defence-related leaders from the UAE. The visit followed Queen Elizabeth’s highly successful visit to the UAE in 2010 and is the culmination of a continuous series of Ministerial and other high level contacts including visits to the UAE over the past year by the UK Prime Minister David Cameron and, most recently, by Boris Johnson, Mayor of London. The starting point for the two- day programme was at Windsor in Berkshire, around 30 miles west of London, where the Queen has one of her principal residences at Windsor Castle. The President arrived in the State Bentley to a formal dais, where he and the Queen formally met before setting off in the first of a series of open top carriages which took him and his entourage up to Windsor Castle in procession for the ceremonial Royal Salute and a Guard of Honour. A State Luncheon was the centrepiece of the first day’s programme bringing together many guests representing the strong and enduring relationship between the UK and UAE. The visit was marked by the signing of two agreements between the UK and the UAE. The Dialogue of Values is aimed at strengthening cultural and political understanding between the two countries, and a Memorandum on a National Qualifications Framework will identify the quality institutions as well as the qualifications that their higher education institutions will endorse.
