Elmtree Archers at Fishleigh House, 15th January 2017 Report & results provided by Annemary, Elmtree. The weather was unbelievably dry, the driest ever in all the time since using these beautiful grounds at Fishleigh House, so a very happy band of 80 archers gathered for the shoot. A big thank you from the Admin as all who booked in turned up - yes! There were no “no shows”. However, although a couple of archers were unable to attend, they at least sent in their apologies so enabled us to start on time which is so important when the daylight is short. With bows and arrows at the ready and fuelled with delicious bacon baps and hot drinks, the archers were set for a good day’s competition in favoured surroundings. “The Lonely Little Arrow”A lonely little arrowWith fletchings white and redDid land atop a wood pileWhich then became its bed. Throughout the spring and summer The archers did not come, The autumn came and still it lay Now weathered by the sun. While a great big log machine Was crunching through the wood They had to move the targets And shoot just where they could. But winter came and they returned With faces and 3Ds, And the lonely little arrow Was found amongst the trees. The reason it was there is clear - In flight it lost its nock And must have landed way off course, Sent haywire by the shock. So now although I'm glad to say It's returning to its bowman It's probably best to be retired And kept as one good omen. By Sue Kenworthy, December 2016. ~ Photograph by Jason Quinn ~ 67

* Moonshine in Action *FAN UK caught up with the lovely Stacey Service of BroadlandBowmen recently and she shared with us a bit of information abouthow her mountain trike, “Moonshine”, has helped her sinceeveryone’s successful fundraising efforts last year to enable her tobuy one. This is what she had share:- “My mountain trike - AKA MOONSHINE - is a rugged all-terrain wheelchair packed with mountain bike technology. This includes a lightweight aluminium frame, all-round air suspension for all three wheels and disc brakes. Moonshine also has lever drive so my hands stay clean and dry. One of the levers operates the disc brakes and the rear wheel steering. The chunky tyres on the main drive wheels enable me to independently tackle terrain that wouldnormally be out of bounds in my ordinarymanual wheelchair.Moonshine has definitely opened up a lotmore areas that I can go to with my archeryhobby; as well as general family outings.Of these new opportunities, the one whichI am really looking forward to in thesummer time is when I can finally walk alongthe beach with my husband hand in hand. 69

Archery 3D are authorised sole distributors of Wildcrete 3D Targets in the UK and Eire. Established over 10 years ago Wildcrete South Africa are manufacturers of lightweight concrete structures for the home and garden. Wildcrete produce garden sculpture moulds from imprints of original clay art work. Taking inspiration from the wonderful wildlife of South Africa - from the country's most beautiful birds to the beloved Big Five. In addition to their proudly South Africa product offering, their production process creates employment for more than 40 people, ranging from artists and painters to moulders and a delivery team. Wildcrete is a family business and the family, being keen archers, decided to adapt their products and manufacture what are without doubt the most detailed and lifelike 3D archery targets on the market. Currently offering over 30 different products their range of targets is increasing all the time and there are several exciting new releases planned for later this year. So what is unique about Wildcrete targets? Their targets are, first of all, very lifelike. Whether viewing from 5 yards or from 50 yards the detail stands out like no other 3D targets on the market. Not only are the targets lifelike to shoot, they are extremely hard-wearing with most of the larger models having replaceable cores when eventually they are required. In addition to the robustness of these targets they are surprisingly easy to remove arrows from, healing and regaining their surface instantly.70

Another unique feature is the use of anatomically correct scoring areas, for instance on the following pictures of the Honey Badger target you will seefirst of all (top left) a typical 'broadside-on' scoring area which is normaland similar to other makes of target. However, turn the target to face the other wayand look on its back (top right) and you will see a directional arrow indicating theangle to position the target at in line with the shooting peg.As the shot is at around 40 degrees tobroadside from behind, the animal thenthe scoring zone is further back on theside of the target (bottom left and right)so giving a realistic hunting shot. This,of course, also reduces the likelihood ofshooting through the target when shootingat the same place on both sides and, therefore, prolongs the lifetime of the target. It is the attention to detail which puts Wildcrete in the forefront of Archery target design. The running leopard target (above) is amazingly lifelike from whichever angle you view it from. The larger targets also have a unique method of jointing parts together. The join is achieved by placing one end of the target at right angles to the other, pushing together and then twisting. The 'male' end even has a thread and this achieves a tighter fit and a more robust way of joining two halves compared with the traditional method of jointing. 71

Wildcrete 3D Targets are now officially IFAA approved: Wildcrete Targets can be bought exclusively from Archery3D direct - (see www.archery3d.co.uk) or from one of our two authorised re-sellers: Phoenix Archery (www.phoenix-archery.co.uk) The Longbow Shop (www.thelongbowshop.com)72

REDNEX Inaugural shoot Sunday 12th March 2017 WOW! There is nothing else we can say! 141 Archers from 26 different clubs and those that choose to shoot as independent. An awesome response to our first event; thank you, each, and every, one of you. What a day we had! The weather held, the temperature mild for early March. Forty targets set in two loops of twenty, either side of the gathering area; we Rednex were hoping for a safe and fun filled day for all of you. Admin handled the registration. Catering handled the quest for breakfast. The course setters were busy running for cover. Time to populate the course. Walk out groups despatched, target groups deposited at their start points; it was time…Three, two, one, GO! Nothing else we could do except marshal the course and man the tea tent. Happily, the day went without incident. The feedback received was all positive, with a few pointers for future improvements and suggestions about where to put the Wildebeest that are not physically possible! Above all a barrage of smiles and happy faces. As you can see from the results, there were some incredible scores. What you may not have realised is that each person listed below now has a new PB score - your best at Rednex! Thank you for your support. See you at Easter: Saturday and Sunday, 15th and 16th April 2017 To be held at: Thorrington Hall Woods, Clacton Road, Thorrington, CO7 8HA (adjacent to St. Mary’s Church). * A Wheelchair for Tonya * You will remember in the February/March issue of FAN UK that we introduced you to Tonya, fellow archer, mother, wife and a truly lovely lady in need of a mountain trike to assist her continued participation in archery - both field and target. Well, it gives us immense pride to give you the following update from her husband, Damian on the fundraising efforts … as of 6th March 2017: “Thank you, everyone! We did it! You did it! We're so stoked, Thursday afternoon we hit our target. A few short weeks ago we hit the half way mark, then a group of Twitch streamers - 'TeamEmmmmsie' - took our cause to heart and spent a weekend, and most of last week, streaming games and fundraising in our name. They added a massive amount towards our goal, and with everything donated by friends, family, co-workers, and people we've never met, we're there! I've been in touch with Mountain Trike and we'll be arranging a test drive soon. Thank you all so, so much!” FAN UK’s Club Update - Broadland Bowmen The Broadland Bowmen Master Archer shoot, on Sunday 21st May 2017, will be the last Master Archer shoot at our current woods. We hope that our October 2017 NFAS shoot will take place in our new woods - to be confirmed in due course. Shoot Reports & Clubs’ Location Directory In response to feedback from one of our readers, who asked if it was possible to let readers know roughly where the clubs featured in the shoot reports are, we have decided to add this feature. The reader said that as the photos and shots in the reports look interesting, it’s frustrating thinking “I’d love to go there” and not actually knowing how close (or not) they are. FAN UK agreed! So - here is a list of the clubs featured in all previous editions of the magazine thus far, as well as the clubs advertising their forthcoming shoots and those who have already asked for their information to be shared, with their general locations for your perusal. Thanks again to Mike Schofield for this terrific suggestion! :-) I have also included the locations of the clubs shown in the wonderful photographs throughout the magazine.
