South Cheshire Field Archers Open shoot - Sunday 8th May 2016 - by Bernie Stafford, SCFA Shoot Co-ordinator & photos by Brian Warrier. This was (probably) our last shoot before FE come & carry out clearance work in the forest. The weather Gods smiled upon us and our visiting archers were greeted with a warm, sunny day. Once more, many travelled long distances to come & enjoy our course, & even accidents & delays on the M6 didn’t deter them. Our course laying team had been busy fettling the course and putting out many new 3D targets, some large, some not so. As always, there were no “gimmes” out in the forest, & the targets by the lake just added to the interest! There is plenty of “dead ground” in the forest & good use was made of much of it. As always, we received a great deal of positive feedback from visiting archers about the course, & the variety (& challenges!) of the shots. This is all down to our dedicated & hard working team of course layers (Tony, Liz, Dave, Mike, & Tom) without whom we wouldn’t have a course, never mind one which regularly attracts archers from all over the country. An excellent catering service was provided once more by Viv & Derek, ably assisted by Derek’s daughter xxx. The pork baps appeared to be particularly popular at lunch time! Pat Belfield from Oakridge supplied us with some more superb examples of her baking skills, for which many thanks Pat. I’m not sure if the whisky cake or the Malteser cake sold out first – I know which my favourite was! It was heartening to see so many youngsters attending the shoot – given the current age profile of the NFAS we need all of the new blood that we can attract. Our next Open Shoot – the “Joe Gill Memorial”, will be on the 6th November. Wild Geese North Yorkshire Challenge Sunday 22nd May 2016 by David Bowen. We were thrilled with the turnout of the third North Yorkshire Challenge, which attracted over 100 archers representing 27 different Clubs. The competition took place on our last 2 x 20 format as our future competitions will be held on a 1 x 36 course as we expand into new woods. For most of the day the weather was glorious, but a strong and steady downpour right at the end of the shoot made the last few shots tricky and wet, and unfortunately brought the competition to a soggy end. The all-inclusive food and drinks wet down well, with little left at the end. Due to the warm weather we provided a drinks station at the half way point for the duration of the competition. We hope to see many archers return for our September shoot and shoot the new layout course. If you want to make a full North Yorkshire weekend of it, a large Country Fair is taking place a couple of miles away, on the same land estate as us the day before. We can provide advice on accommodation. Whitefriars Bowmen, NFAS Open Shoot Report Sunday 10th April 2016 (40 x 3Ds) by Bob Bruce. Thanks to all archers who came to our shoot, some with long journeys of over 2 hours. Our forest grounds have small rolling hills which make for challenging shots but with natural backstops. The weather was excellent with sun and blue skies although a cool breeze accompanied this. Many thanks to the catering team of Judith Coombes and Geoff Abbott who provided very good food all day to our merry band of archers. Thanks to Kay in for baking cakes doing all the shopping for the food and drinks, buttering rolls preparing onions etc her efforts although unseen make the whole event run smoother. Thanks also to Sandy Goodings for his tireless work as car park attendant, marshal and general dogsbody who kept the event running smoothly. Our next 3D shoot (2 x 20) is on the 9th October 2016. If you would like to take part then please contact Bob Bruce at [email protected] or call 07802 758211. Bowmen of Bude - 2 x 18 Predator & Prey 3D targets Sunday 10th April 2016 Open Shoot (NFAS) by Nickie Bellinger. The storm forecast was daunting but the day started windy and bright when we welcomed 60 archers to our 2 x 18 predator and prey shoot. The wind was howling through the trees but the rain held off for the best part of the day and the sun kept shining. We had decided that this was to be named the \"3D preservation shoot\" after some archers had mentioned the challenging course during the of the day. We had good feedback and we do like everyone to leave our shoots with the memories of a day well spent. Our next shoot is on the 9th October when we will be hosting the South West Crown, we have already decided that copious amounts of homemade cakes will be readily available throughout the day and we look forward to seeing you all there. Severn Valley Yeoman Foresters - Sunday 24th April 2016 by Martin Cane. A typical Spring morning greeted 162 archers to our 1st shoot of the year. Our course layers this time were Sharon, Steve, Marcos and Jamie on the one side and Tom and Andrew on the other - thank you members for a job well done. Deb and her catering team were again on hand tempting passers by with a wide selection of local produce – it came from the butchers down the road. Anyway thank you Deb and team for the hard work you put in. Thanks also to some of our loyal members who helped the course layers and also kept things flowing throughout the day. These also include car parking and registration. We hope you all enjoyed yourselves so much you will all come back on October 16th – we would love to see you all.
