Principal’s Desk “The desire to create is one of the deepest yearnings of the human soul.” With great pride and happiness, I present to you yet another exciting edition of the School Magazine Palash. I am overwhelmed with the feedback and appreciation received for the first edition. I have always believed that the mind is not a vessel to be filled but a fire to be kindled. As long as our ideas are expressed and thoughts kindled, we can be sure of learning as everything begins with an idea. We believe in enabling our children in such a manner that they act as ambassadors of a significant and value-based society! Our pedagogy which is universal and inclusive complements this. Nurturing creativity and inspiring innovation are two of the key elements of a successful education, and a school magazine is the perfect amalgamation of both. The school magazine Palash brings out an array of artistic and scientific expressions with distinct individual signatures. I do appreciate and applaud the editorial team for their successful completion of this tedious yet daunting task of putting together the myriad thoughts and dreams of our students into a meaningful and delightful visual fest. Regards Ms. K. Vishnu Vandana Principal Euro School Gachibowli

Palash Vol.2 Fly Man is born free in the world But he is bound by the society’s words He is given the rules to be followed And his originality is just swallowed His wings are cut which doesn’t let him fly And there is nothing he can do except sit at a corner and cry Tell me why should I just give in to the pressure of the society Maybe my life is filled with the anxiety That do what they tell you or you will be in big trouble Or maybe if u don’t laugh at a sexist comment u will be unlikeable So everyday u die a little inside just so you will fit in And u will hide your fire that comes from within They will push u down and act like you are of no worth And u will try to fight and be the strongest person on earth But soon u will give in and be a robot like the others And then they will finally except u and call u their brother I don’t get why individuality is bad now But it’s something that I just can’t allow Poets like Robert frost write poems to tell us to be ourselves and be unique And ya maybe understanding their message makes me a freak But frankly I just don’t care And maybe they won’t like me yes I’m aware But I will try, try to fly And no matter what I will not be affected by the pressure they apply -Aparajita Mishra Class 9 A 12

Palash Vol.2 A Smile It costs nothing, but creates much. It enriches those who receive, Without impoverished those who give. It happens in a flash but memory lasts forever. None are so rich they can get along without it, And none so poor but are richer for its benefits. It creates happiness in the home, Fosters good will in a business And is the countersign of friends. It is rest to the weary, daylight to the discouraged, Sunshine to the sad And natures antidote for trouble. Yet it can’t be bought, begged, borrowed or stolen for, It is something that is no earthly good to anybody Till it is given away. Nobody needs a smile do much As those who have none left to give! -Jyothsna Kandarpa 14 Class 10

Palash Vol.2 Mistakes Well here we are, making mistakes Its funny cause we just don’t have what it takes To fight the problems on our own Parents just say its cause of that gosh darn phone We don’t mean any harm and just want to live life in peace All we want and all we need from this is to cease We’re tired of life with stress and irritation Maybe it’s just our generation But life is becoming quite miserable And we’ve just become decipherable It’s okay to make mistakes Our emotions feel like mixed up smoothies or shakes Maybe this poem isn’t as good as the ones before But it certainly had a meaning and of that I’m sure So don’t worry love you’re not alone And every mistake, every experience will later show you how much you’ve grown -Aparajita Mishra Class 9 A 16

The Dancing Forest Nymph Once apon a time there was a young girl named Lucy, she and her parents faced extreme poverty, they had very little to eat, three meals a day for them would be a luxury. Lucy’s father worked as a fisherman and her mother sold wool. Most of the time Lucy would spend her time in the forest, taking the sheep out for grazing. She longed for a change in her life, something other than just the same old routine everyday she felt as if life couldn’t get any more boring so Lucy entertained herself while she took out the sheep-she danced. Dancing took Lucy into another world. One day as she was humming to herself twirling amongst she sheep she saw a light, not an ordinary light but a very bright light as she came closer she noticed it was a forest nymph! As legend had it nymphs almost never made themselves visible to humans! Seeing one was considered very lucky. The nymph was probably the most beautiful thing Lucy had ever seen in her life, “Oh!” she exclaimed on setting eyes on the nymph the nymph had elf like ears long brown hair that reached her waist and clothes fashioned from leaves and flowers to add. The nymph said nothing but took her hands and started dancing. this had taken Lucy by surprise but nevertheless, she danced along. this continued for days untill the nymph once gave Lucy a basket covered with a handkerchief she said- “Do not look into this before you’ve reached home. On the way she couldn’t help it she just had to take a look! she swiftly took of napkin to find it full of dried leaves! furious she threw the basket and the leaves spilled. Lucy decided to take the basket with a few leaves remaining in it thinking at least the basket would come of some use as she reached home she noticed the basket had become much heavier she looked and instead of the leaves there were solid gold pieces. Lucy never found the nymph again, she lost a friend but fortunately the gold had helped Lucy live a much more comfortable and happy life Ishani Class 6 B 24

A Bully’s Day As A Victim When Amit woke up in the morning and looked at his face in the mirror, he did not recognize the face looking back at him. “This is not me”, he cried out loud. When he looked around he started to notice that he was not in his own house either. Amit was quite startled. When he looked back into the mirror, he slowly started recognizing the face. It was Ryan! Ryan was the boy who Amit used to tease in school all the time. When he went to get dressed for school, he saw that he didn’t have many options. So, he wore what he found. When Amit looked for his phone, realization struck him that he was Ryan and Ryan didn’t have a phone. When he went to school, he saw himself standing with his gang of friends. “Hey”, he said. He had completely forgotten that he was Ryan. One of his friends started calling him names and teasing him about how poor he was. Amit couldn’t believe that he just stood there watching his own friend bully someone like that. This happened all day at school. When he got home, Ryan’s mother came up to him and started crying on his shoulder. When he asked what was wrong, she told him that she had gotten fired from her job because her boss thought she was too old. She wouldn’t be able to earn for the family anymore. Amit was puzzled as to why she was so worried about earning money but somehow worked out that Amit didn’t have a father. He had two younger brothers to take care of as well. That night, when Amit went to sleep, in Ryan’s bed, he felt a pang of guilt and relentlessly thought about how inconsiderate he had been towards Ryan. The next morning, he surprisingly woke up in his own bed. As soon as he woke up, he knew what he had to do. He immediately dressed and asked his dad for a cheque for $500 dollar, talk about being filthy rich. His dad, being his usual workaholic self, gave him the cheque without any questions. Amit ran to Ryan’s house and handed his mother the check. Ryan’s smile at his apologies certainly made his day. Divya Grade 9 26

My Pet, Bruce Sprinkles I love Bruce, my pet dog. He is an english cocker spaniel. He is very loyal, affectionate and a gentle dog. It all started 5 years ago when I was eight years old. I was hiding under my bed in the morning. We were getting a new dog that day. I was scared of all pets, including fish. I heard someone coming upstairs and opened the door. It was my twin brother, Jake. He said “come out jenny, he is just a cute puppy. I said “No! He will bite me” my brother said “come out jenny.” “No,’’ I moaned. Jake said “you have to listen to me, I’m older than you “ “only by a few seconds” I replied. He let out a sigh and left. A few minutes later he came back again and said “Jenny please come out, take a look at him, I promise he won’t harm you” slowly I came out trembling and looked at my brother who was holding a small cute puppy. I melted at once after seeing it’s cute face and those large loving eyes with a spark, Jake saw my face turn into a pleasant and smiling one so he asked me whether I would like to hold him and I took the puppy into my arms. A few days later we were discussing about naming him. We found out that he was attracted to colourful sprinkles and confetti so we decided to name him Bruce Sprinkles. He has a golden coat, he had those warm, dark loving curious eyes he was easy to train, he never barked much and was quite playful. We treated him with chew sticks whenever he behaved well. Once Jake and I had to go for a 5 day educational field trip. We didn’t feel like leaving Bruce but we had to. During the second night of our trip I cried because I missed Bruce, I eagerly waited to go home and I also learnt that Jake was also missing Bruce. Once we reached, our mother told us that Bruce had not been eating much since we left and it was not at its favourite place. After an hour or so we found him hiding under my bed just the way I hid 5 years ago Jake and I said, “Come on Brucey Sprinkles, come here, we’re sorry.” He hesitated at first to come out but then came out and started licking my face. Whenever he senses that I am sad and upset he comes and snuggles near my feet. Laetitia Grade 9 32

The Result Of Ignorance “Amit, Amit” screamed Amit’s mom “Climb down the tree, you will get hurt.” Amit said “It is so exciting to climb the tree. I wish I could be a monkey!” Amit stomped his foot and ran into his room. That night Fairy god mother passed through his window and decided to fulfil his wish. The next day when he got up he saw himselft in the mirror and thought he was still dreaming and so he started patting his entire face, but in vain. He tried washing it off with water, all the scrubbing went down the drain. He started trembling with fear and ran down the stairs as fast as he could. “Mom! Dad! This is not me, is it?” he cried. His parents said quite normally, “It is you, why did you ask so?” Amit ran up the stairs, his eyes were filled with tears. Amit went to his room to see himself turned into a monkey! He could talk and walk like a human, but his face was replaced by that of a monkey. Amit went to his brother to ask about it but his brother seemed to not know anything. Helplessly, he sat on his chair and tears started rolling down his cheeks. Tears of fear, anger and incompetence. He was not ready to live like a monkey. All he could think of was his friends bullying him. Right when Amit was about to go back to sleep hoping to see some change, his grandfather approached. He said, “I know why you’re crying but it’s all your fault.” Amit wiped his tears and fumbled,”m-my fault?” His grandpa nodded, ”This is what you wished for. We kept on advicing you to study and behave well but you were inspired by a monkey. You constantly wished a life which was not yours.” Amit said “I want to live like Amit, I don’t want to be mocked at. I want my face back.” Grandfather smiled and said “Pray with your full might and promise not to be naughty again. Fairy god mother will grant your wish one more time.” Subhasree Class 9 34
