SAGARDOY AND TOLES LEGAL ENGLISH CERTIFICATE TOLES means ‘Test of Legal English Skills’. The TOLES programme consists of a structured course of legal English training materials supported by three levels of professional exams: Foundation (beginner level), Higher (intermediate level), and Advanced (advanced level). The test is designed to assess candidates’ Reading, writing, drafting and listening skills. The Test is issued by the TOLES Global Legal English Organization, a member of the International Division of the Law Society of England and Wales.

TOLES RECOGNITION Law firms and organizations that have already entered candidates for the TOLES exams include: The law Society of England and Wales, Linklaters Oppenhoff and Rädler, Allen&Overy LLP, Baker and McKenzie, PricewaterhouseCoopers, KPMG, the European Court of Justice and Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer, among others.

DEALING WITH MOOT CASES Through the program, students will have to analyse several moot cases based on different legal principles, and put into practice all knowledge acquired. The course will include the study of the following moot cases: • New York Times Co. v. Sullivan, 376 U.S. 254 (1964) • District of Columbia v. Heller, 554 U.S. 570 (2008) • Gallagher v. City of Clayton, 699 F.3d 1013 (8th Cir.2012)

COURSE CONTENTS 1. THE LEGAL PROFESSION Understanding the various players and structures found and different areas in the legal profession, including the court system and an overview of civil procedure. 2. THE LANGUAGE OF BANKING Overview of working in a bank, including the necessary language used in contracts and operations. 3. THE LANGUAGE OF CONTRACT LAW Overview of the principal elements of a contract, common contractual clauses, considerations and legal writing and codifying common law principles. 4. THE LANGUAGE OF EMPLOYMENT LAW Overview of labour law terminology, employment contracts and some clauses from employment contracts. Legalese and terms in the employer/employee relationship.

5. THE LANGUAGE OF THE LAW OF TORT Overview of tort deals with civil wrongs, types of tort, the duty of care and some categories of tort. 6. THE LANGUAGE OS BUSINESS AND COMPANY LAW Overview of corporate operations, shares and share capital, mergers and acquisitions and corporate changes. 7. UNDERSTANDING CONTRACTS Overview of contracts, archaic terms, warranties and indemnities and legal writing.

EXAMINATION Sagardoy Business & Law School is an official TOLES examination center and will organize the test exclusively for the program students. APPLICATION Admission to the program is subject to having a B2 general English level. It is not required to get any English certificate to apply, students just would have to check their English level through a test designed for this purpose.

FEES The application fee for the full program is [XXX]. A discount of 15% will apply for two or more applications from the same company. Sagardoy & Toles Legal English Certificate includes the TOLES exam course book and documentation containing expressions, vocabulary, exercises, practice tests, etc. The TOLES examination will be held at Sagardoy Business & Law School. Exam fee is included in the application fee.
