He drew up a spreadsheet to calculate the weight and help plan the layout to get the balance right. The plan was to use tandem axles with a spring rating of 3000kg and a four-wheel electric braking system using an in-cab controller. About two weeks after starting, news broke that the country was going into lockdown for Covid-19. The first thing that strikes you as you enter the door is the combined industrial chic and vintage look Russell has achieved through clever combination of brushed aluminium door faces, varnished oak panelling and leather-look upholstery. To take an industrial theme and combine it with a vintage look could be considered a huge risk, but Russell has seamlessly combined the two styles with his attention to detail. For example, the chunky aluminium support pillars have been drilled to create an eye- catching feature. Rivets have been perfectly spaced on the drawer and cupboard fronts to enhance the industrial look. The ceiling joints have been battened in varnished timber to stand out and add the vintage flavour. Well established in the market since 2017, Road Life from Tauranga had their new Aus- tralian range of caravans and camp trailers on display right by the main gate entry where they were stopping foot traffic straightaway – we featured the Apex caravan in Vol 18. The slide-out options certainly add space to these RVs. With immediate effect the RVCMANZ will be known operationally as the Recreational Vehicle Industry of New Zealand (RVINZ) and will adopt a new brand identity including the new logo shown below. The Association was formed in 2005 when a dedicated assembly recognised the need for better representation of the Industry amidst changes to various key standards directly affecting the design and manufacturing of both motor homes and caravans. Since inception, the Association has comprised a mix of members from both the manufacturing and supply sectors of the NZ Industry and during its existence has played a significant role at critical times by assisting the shaping of important legislation directly related to the Industry’s interests. This advocacy and advisory work continues.
