What is the CCRS?The Catholic Certificate in Religious Studies (CCRS)offers an introduction to the central teaching andbeliefs of the Catholic Church. The modules are taughtthrough lectures and group discussions in a friendlyenvironment. The course is managed and awarded bythe Board of Religious Studies on behalf of theBishops' Conference of England and Wales. Who is it for?The course is open to all wishing to deepen theirunderstanding of the Catholic Faith.This includes: teachers and trainee teachers, governors and others working in Catholic education those wishing to follow the course for personal interest and formation. Further provision within the Diocese of PortsmouthCatechists and others in parish ministry have theopportunity to undertake a separate Certificate forCatechists which is run by the diocesan Formation forMission (FFM) team. The PCP is happy to providecontact details if you would like further information.
Teaching and AssessmentEach module requires ten hours’ contact time orequivalent, including a pre-course task, an intensiveday’s teaching, guided reading, and an assignment ofa 1,500 word essay or equivalent presentation.A tutorial is available to support each module.You are welcome to attend single modules and alsoto follow the course for personal interest withoutcompleting the assignments (attendance only). Each student mustcomplete eight modules (six core and two specialist).The CCRS is currently taken at the Primary CatholicPartnership training centre in Southampton.There may also be the possibility of training in yourschool or cluster, if numbers are large enough.

Fees for CCRS ModulesModules cost £60 each, including assessment. Feescan be paid in the following ways: £60 at the beginning of each module £30 per module for attendance-only students, who do not wish to gain accreditation £400 for full course payment in advanceThere is also a single registration fee of £20.Applicants engaged in teaching or aspects of parishministry may wish to apply to their parish or schoolfor assistance with payment of fees. Awards CeremonyCertificates are presented at an Awards Ceremonyheld each year in Portsmouth at the Cathedral ofSt John the Evangelist.
The Primary Catholic Partnership Training CentreThe PCP training centre is located at the edge ofSouthampton SO16 9LP (see overleaf).The centre is equipped with two teaching rooms anda library of dedicated texts.Disabled parking an a toilet with wheelchairs accessare available. Visitors with specific requirementsshould contact the PCP before their visit.
How to find the PCP CentreThe PCP training centre is located in the grounds ofHoly Family Catholic Primary School, SO16 9LP.Leave the M27 at Junction 3 and follow the M271 inthe direction of Southampton Docks. Come off theM271 at Junction 1. Turn left and follow the roadinto Brownhill Way.At the second set of traffic lights, by the David LloydCentre, turn right and then right again into LowerBrownhill Road. When you reach the blue fence,which surrounds the school, continue straight on for50 metres and turn left into the school car park. Thetraining centre is the cream building to the right.By train, arrive at Southampton Central Station andcatch the number 2A bus, get off at ‘The Saints’ puband walk down Mansel Road West.
