We believe in the benefits that an all-girls environment brings. Above all, we want our students to enjoy their learning experiences and to leave with skills, values and memories that will stay with them throughout their lives and equip them for future employment. Through our Performing and Visual Arts specialisms, we offer an extensive calendar of events which help develop students’ talents. Our thriving, mixed Sixth Form enables students to extend their learning, gain work experience with industry partners and prepare for university or work. 03 “An outstanding education and environment in which my daughter has thrived.” A. BRINDLEY, PARENT LEARNING GROUPS Students are grouped by ability in English, Maths and Science from Year 7 onwards. This ensures that the level of challenge and support they receive is wholly appropriate to their individual needs.
INSPIRING STUDENTS We have a ‘can-do’ culture and visitors often remark that our girls are astute, ambitious and independent. Hillview students are encouraged to ask questions, to interrogate knowledge and to think creatively to solve problems. Our rich, varied curriculum caters for a range of learning styles and provides many opportunities for students to develop their natural abilities in different contexts. For example, Performing and Visual Arts (eg. Dance, Drama, Art and Music) appear on the timetable every week alongside subjects such as English, Mathematics and Science. CULTIVATING CREATIVITY As a specialist Performing Arts School, we offer a varied calendar of events where girls of all abilities can showcase their talents – including drama productions, dance shows, art exhibitions, fashion shows, gymnastic displays and concerts. Through the Performing and Visual Arts disciplines, we not only nurture creative expression and confidence, but also develop skills that are vital for the workplace, including leadership, collaboration and self-reliance. Our annual musical involves more than 150 students and receives extensive praise from the local community. Creativity at Hillview is not confined to the Arts. Our talented teachers present their subjects in a variety of innovative and stimulating ways, often using the latest technologies, to spark interest and illuminate their subject matter.05

“The sense of community, mutual support and nurture within the school is obvious and a real credit to the staff.” KARL SMITH, YEAR 11 PARENT07
A CARING COMMUNITY We have a long-standing reputation for providing outstanding pastoral support. Positive relationships, high self-esteem and respect for others are encouraged in a variety of ways: • A strong rewards culture encourages girls to make positive choices and go the ‘extra mile’. • Expectations and standards of behaviour are high. • Mentor groups are small and friendly (typically 15 students). • We are recognised as a model of excellent practice in the transition from primary to secondary education and take great care to ensure that new students settle into school. • Regular communication with parents via parents’ evenings, emails and our online portal ensure a partnership between school and home.08
EDUCATION FOR LIFE Well-rounded citizens with enquiring minds We prepare our young people to thrive in and contribute to society by developing their sense of responsibility, cultural awareness and confidence. • Weekly Personal and Social Development (PSD) lessons encourage students to develop their own voice, alongside important research and decision making skills. • Student Council – a great way for students to take responsibility for representing others and to influence their school community. • Community initiatives – we regularly work with the elderly, disabled young people and local primary schools. • We work with international schools and raise funds each year for global charities. We also hold the International Schools Award. 09
“PSD teaches you valuable life lessons. It’s the most valuable subject I’ve ever studied.” YEAR 9 STUDENT10
