REPORT IEEE Instrumentation and Measurements Society Distingushed Lecture Programme on “Advanced Reliability, Availability and Safety Design Tools for Industrial Applications” Swathy Chandra R, S6 ICE The Instrumentation and Measurement Society Distinguished Lecturer Program (DLP) is one of the highest quality lecture programs offered to the Instrumentation and Measurement Society chapters, I&M members, and Engineering enthusiasts. The lecture provides I&M chapters around the world with talks by experts on topics of interest and importance to the I&M community making each Distinighed Lecture resourceful with speakers as one among the most qualified experts in the field and offers students a first-hand chance to interact with these experts during their lectures. IEEE Instrumentation and Measurements Society Student Branch Chapter NSS College of Engineer- ing organized its first Distinguished Lecture Program on 27th September 2020 on the topic Ad- vanced Reliability, Availability and Safety Design tools for Industrial Applications. Dr Marco Mug- niani was the Distinguished Lecturer for the session. Prof.Marco Mugnaini Assistant Professor at the University of Siena (Manager of the electronics training lab.), University of Siena, Italy, and the award recipient for the best National PhD thesis in the maintenance context from CNIM (Na- tional Italian Center for Maintenance). He is the author and co-author of more than 90 papers in International peer-reviewed journals and conferences and of 5 national and international patents. The virtual Distinguished Lecture Program was streamed live on youtube on the Student Branch’s Official Youtube Channel mainly focused on educating students, across the globe regarding the most recent scientific and technological trends in Instrumentation and Control Engineer- ing. The event was inaugurated by the Kerala Section Chair, Mrs Sarada Jayakrishnan. Scientific and industrial worlds have started recently to look again with interest to the basic rules to per- 51 Inspecto Department of Instrumentation and Control Engineering, NSSCE

form reliability, availability, and safety analysis and design on complex electro-mechanical sys- tems. The main failure modes on electronic devices and sensors as well as the main techniques for failure mode investigation are of interest in modern system design. Statistical character- ization of the main probability density functions and degradation models of innovation is man- datory to build lasting and safe products. This talk aimed to enable companies to develop inner confidence in advanced modelling techniques involving reliability, availability, and safe design. Un- der this spotlight in addition to traditional and well-known statistical models, innovative model- ling techniques based on statistical data representation will be introduced and tailored to some specific case studies in the fields of bio instruments, transportations, and oil & gas contexts. The session was informative and all topics were properly covered by the speaker. The active par- ticipation amongst the students along with the method of lecturing made the session effective to the delegates. All the topics were dealt with in a very understanding way and all participants could easily relate to them.
