Our application can be used for tracking after what time will a bus come to a partic- ular stop. The application also has many other usages like it can be implemented in school buses so parents don’t have to worry about children they can directly see their location where they are. We can use it during picnics to keep coordination between buses. It helps the ones at home to be in touch with their loved ones. Our project has a wide scope in future to cope up with the requirement of ever growing digital world. One In A Million! Barely did I notice her in the beginning! Didn’t even bother to know what her name was. As I went to talk, she ignored me and seemed to be extremely arrogant! Little did I know that this poor chap was an introvert! Gradually conversations began, we began to discovered each other as individuals. As time passed the bond became stronger! Teasing and irritating each other every minute, Stalking and gossiping like sisters, Scolding each other like a mother would, Or ever for that matter getting mad at each other The love never reduced but only became deeper and deeper From not even bothering to know each other’s name... To sharing every small moment in life! From not liking her in the beginning.... To having a connect in every possible way! Having someone that knows you as you are, understands where you have been,ac- cepts what you have become, and still allows you to grow and loves you in a way they always did is just PRICELESS!!!! Never let them go...because they are one in a million! Urvi Shivan FE CMPN B 49

The Iceberg Illusion It is well known that icebergs float with just one-tenth of their mass above the water surface. Ninety percent of an iceberg is hidden from our view, in the depths of the water below. Using that very analogy, I want you to think about the person who you feel is closest to you. It could be your best friend, girlfriend or boyfriend, anyone in your life. Ask yourself how well do you know that person? How many of their faces have you been shown? Have many more of them are there left to discover? I highly doubt you know even up to half of that person’s true nature. Before you start doubting my words, let me just ask you how many sides of yourself have you ever shown to someone? The embarrassing side of you, the parts you feel ashamed about, your dark little secrets, the loving side of you, the caring side; who knows just how many parts of yourself still lurk beneath the still waters. At the same time, the worst criminal, could actually be a kind and loving father, a caring husband and a filial son for all we know. Sometimes the people we think are our greatest enemies, can actually be thinking about us and helping us in unexpect- ed ways. Ever heard the saying “Today’s enemies could be tomorrow’s allies”? I find this saying to be very applicable to real life. I will conclude with this little fact. Remember, the Titanic sunk due to no other rea- son than it underestimating the iceberg in front of it. Its sailors assumed that the iceberg was all it showed itself to be. Never underestimate someone and never judge someone to harshly either. Matthew Lepcha 50 FE IT A

The Challenges of Mumbai Transport Systems Mumbai, the financial capital of India, with a population of 18.41 million people as per the Census of 2011, is one of the most densely populated cities in the world. It is an intricate amalgamation of business, money, trade, transport, Bollywood, fame, films, food, and its world-famous “Vada Pav”. Although this city is enriched with its unique cultural heritage, it faces the challenges with shortages of land as well as in the areas of infrastructure and social services that have unfortunately not been kept up with the growing demands of the city in this era. Mumbai’s public transport system consists of a suburban Indian rail network (Cen- tral, Western, Harbour), bus system as well as private black-and-yellow taxis and auto rickshaws. It is true that Mumbai accounts for slightly more than 6.16% of India’s economic growth. Unfortunately, the public transport infrastructure in Mum- bai is at low ebb, being another long needle of pain to thousands of Mumbaikars in today’s modern era. There is barely any control or co-ordination between dozens of agencies and organisations which could partake into building and maintaining road networks, worsening the situation for the citizens, who are then forced to take a lop- sided backbone on train transport. 51

Being a leading service for 164 years, although train transport facilities are considered to be a major lifeline to the heart of this sleepless city, it has, however, not expanded its capacity for carrying this load, thereby being inept to keep up with this rampant growth of population today. If a train ever gets delayed due to unforeseen circum- stances, more number of passengers raid over the platforms until restless commuters form an uncontrolled big pack. As the train is on its verge to halt, more than twice as many cram into the entrance of the doors, trying their might to secure space for standing inside the aisles, or at least, feeling urged to stand on the footboard of the train, while struggling with the jostles inside the train compartment. In the last ten years, about 25,722 people have fallen off moving trains, of which 6,989 people died due to losing their grip and falling into the gap while trying to get into a jam-packed boogie or hitting an electric pole while in motion. There have been alarming cases of deaths due to suffocation, heart attacks and seizures triggered due to a fatal drop of oxygen levels in the body. The Traffic Department struggles to manage this vehicular density under the sites where Metro Projects are going on (currently the Dahisar-Mankhurd Line and the Colaba-Bandra-SEEPZ line). Frequent road travellers face an additional problem of an increased vehicular density, dug-up roads and bottlenecks as they strive to put up with the ever-increasing scorching heat produced by engines and traffic jam. This problem gets further catalysed by the menace of the erratic vehicle movements made by the autorickshaw drivers and the two-wheelers, giving their best shot to cram into any small room available. The continuous driving on such roads and bumpy rides as well as the persistent infrastructural problems has had negative effects on human body, with an increasing level of stress, spine related problems, chronic neck related problems, etc. Several bike riders have lost their lives while having encountered these potholes and deep craters. 52

So how do we overcome this hullabaloo? In my opinion, a single governing organi- zation needs to be established with a long-term goal of how the city’s infrastructure needs to be properly redesigned and smoothly executed in order to stay at par with the ever-increasing population. It should be well coordinated so as to prevent an aggrandisement of confusion of each person coming up with their own ideas. It also needs to collaborate with all the Mumbai’s public transport and form a meandering, break-free chain so that citizens can travel effortlessly, thereby preventing them from being stranded. This, in turn, would not only help in completing projects in time, but also sustain thrift investments in projects made. An efficient infrastructural planning can only be done if such an organization is initiated in this democratic city of the Mumbaikars, for the Mumbaikars and by the Mumbaikars. A Participant’s Feedback The experience of attending the CSI Technext 2018 was wonderful for my team. It all started when we received the message in our group about CSI-SFIT organizing a technical quiz as a pre-event to CSI Technext 2018.Having a common interest in technology and its advancements our team, Sahil Nirkhe (FE CMPN B), Abhinav Pis- harody (FE CMPN B) and myself, collectively decided to enter this competition. Our nervousness increased when we reached the venue of the quiz and realized we were the only team from first year engineering. The quiz having three rounds started with a pen paper quiz wherein all individual members of the team had to participate. The second round was an online quiz using the app ‘Kahoot’. This app helped in organizing an online multiplayer quiz wherein the app itself kept a tally of the scores so there was no margin of error. The third round had us solving the famous mathematical puzzle ‘Tower of Hanoi’ in a stipulat- ed time. This was the round where my team had the most fun because Mathematical puzzles interest us all. The results were to be announced on the same day. Honestly, we weren’t expecting to win. When our names were announced as the winners of the CSI-SFIT Intercollegiate Technical quiz, we felt ecstatic. Winning an event with your friends that too of the field you love is always amazing. L-R: Sahil Nirkhe, Abhinav Pisharody, Karthik Munjal at TechNext India 2018, IIT Bombay 55

Now it was time for IIT Bombay. It was my first time there and I was blown away by the expanse of the campus. The CSI TECHNEXT 2018 was at the Victor Menezes Con- vention Centre. We were excited and reached the place a bit early. It was wonderful listening to the speakers over there talk about the various advancements in the field of technology. It was a great exposure for all of my teammates. We even interacted with few other teams and exchanged our knowledge and ideas. Then the prize distri- bution ceremony started and we were called up on the stage and presented with our certificates. We all felt good about winning and also representing our college at such an event. All in all, it was a wonderful experience and I would like to thank CSI SFIT for orga- nizing such a wonderful event. By Karthik Munjal FE CMPN B 56

A committee member’s Feedback When I was asked to give my feedback for the CSI magazine, I started wondering how this journey as the head of the Publicity team transformed me into a different person than I was a year ago. I still remember the first time when we went to the classes for publicity of the CSI membership drive. We were quite tensed as it was our first event of the academic year. As the days passed by, we got to interact with many first year and second year students. We had a huge success in the membership drive wherein 72 students en- rolled themselves for CSI membership for the academic year 2017-18. We had a lot of fun in making the promotion messages for different events which were to be sent on the whatsapp groups. Editing and then re-editing the messages just to realize that the message is still too long to read. I have had an incredible experience working along with my team members- Vishesh Mehra, Hrishikesh Telang and Chelsea Fernandes. Each success was a complete team victory with everybody contributing equally. Being a part of the CSI team, it helped me bond with a lot of new people and helped me develop confidence. It helped me to grow. So, I would love to thank CSI-SFIT for giving me this wonderful opportunity. By Nelson Sequeira, Publicity Head, CSI 2017-18 57

Acknowledgement CSI-SFIT student chapter in the academic year 2017-2018 organized a series of eight successful events for which every time we received an overwhelming response. On behalf of our CSI committee, I sincerely thank Director Bro. Jose Thuruthiyil and Principal Dr. Sincy George and dean of student affairs Dr.C.Hari Prasad for giv- ing us the permission to conduct various events throughout this year and to provide us with an opportunity to present this magazine. I would also like to express gratitude towards Dr. Kavita Sonawane, Head of Com- puter Engineering department and Dr. Joanne Gomes, Head of Information Technol- ogy Department for their immense cooperation. Without the support and guidance of our CSI staff coordinators, the organisation and management of all the events wouldn’t have been so easy and smooth. So I am thankful to Mr. Shamsuddin Khan and Ms. Amrita Mathur. This magazine is the result of a combined effort of all committee members, CSI Cre- ative team and all the students who showed an interest to publish their articles. So I’m grateful to each and every one of them for their honest contribution. Last but not the least I would like to take this opportunity to acknowledge all the committee members, CSI members and everyone who played a part in the success of our CSI events. Thank you!
