Devotion Week 18: 6th June 2021 Theme: God remembers you Hymn: 'Tis so sweet to trust in Jesus 'Tis so sweet to trust in Jesus, Just to take Him at His Word; Just to rest upon His promise, Just to know, \"Thus saith the Lord!\" CHORUS: Jesus, Jesus, how I trust Him! How I've proved Him o'er and o'er; Jesus, Jesus, precious Jesus! Oh, for grace to trust Him more! O how sweet to trust in Jesus, Just to trust His cleansing blood; Just in simple faith to plunge me, ’Neath the healing, cleansing flood. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M98sTXVvftY Genesis 7:23-8:1 (NIV) “Every living thing on the face of the earth was wiped out; people and animals and the creatures that move along the ground and the birds were wiped from the earth. Only Noah was left, and those with him in the ark. The waters flooded the earth for a hundred and fifty days. But God remembered Noah and all the wild animals and the livestock that were with him in the ark, and he sent a wind over the earth, and the waters receded.” It’s more than a year ago since Covid rocked the world. Here in Melbourne, we’ve been through on-again and off-again lockdowns. Many of us are doing it tough and wondering when all the suffering and pain is going to end. Perhaps you’re feeling forgotten by God or you’re asking “How long, O Lord?” Today’s text says “But God remembered Noah and all the wild animals and the livestock that were with him in the ark.” This does not mean that God had forgotten Noah, it is simply saying that God stays true to His promises. God had promised to deliver Noah, his family and all the animals from the death and destruction of the flood. And God remembers, for God would never abandon us. In Deuteronomy 31, Moses challenged the Israelites to stay strong and courageous and twice reassured them that God “will never leave you nor forsake you.” Deut 31:6, 8 (NIV) After Noah was in the ark for 150 days, God remembered Noah. Genesis 8:2 tells us that: “the rain had stopped falling from the sky.” Then in Genesis 8:3, we see that “The water receded steadily from the earth.” Just like Noah, God hasn’t forgotten about us. God sees and knows the situation we are in and remembers His promises to us. God always finishes what He starts. Reflect: • Does the waiting make you feel that God has forgotten you? • State some of God’s promises which mean a lot to you and claim God’s promises for yourself Prayer: Almighty God, we stand before you acknowledging you are the God in control. Help us to rest in you and stand on your promises knowing that you never forget us, you are the faithful God and your promises apply to us even today, in Jesus’ name we pray Amen. 7
