Devotion Week 20: 20th June 2021 Theme: Shout for Joy in Thankful Praise Hymn: He Has Made Me Glad I will enter His gates with thanksgiving in my heart I will enter His courts with praise I will say this is the day that the Lord has made I will rejoice for He has made me glad CHORUS: He has made me glad, He has made me glad I will rejoice for he has made me glad https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lUPihaH9p-Y Psalm 100 1:5 (NIV) Shout for joy to the Lord, all the earth. Worship the Lord with gladness; come before him with joyful songs. Know that the Lord is God. It is he who made us, and we are his; we are his people, the sheep of his pasture. Enter his gates with thanksgiving and his courts with praise; give thanks to him and praise his name. For the Lord is good and his love endures forever; his faithfulness continues through all generations. This psalm calls on all of God’s creations to come together to ‘shout for joy,’ to lift up our voices in thankful praise and worship to God. We are to know that the Lord is God, the creator of the universe and everyone in it and we are His people. Not only are we the created, we are chosen by God and He knows each one of us by name. 1 Peter 2:9 says: “\"But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God's special possession, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light.\" 1 Corinthians 6:19b-20a says: ‘You are not your own, you were bought at a price……,’ the price being the blood of Jesus Christ. Today as we celebrate the 35th anniversary of Camberwell Church, let’s come with a heart ready to praise and give thanks to God. Our thankfulness should spring from what we know of God revealed in His Word and in the person of Jesus Christ. Give thanks for God’s love, redemption grace and salvation, mercy, faithfulness, goodness and so much more. Let’s learn to develop a thankful heart and regularly practice giving thanks and to give thanks in all circumstances because it is God’s will (1Thess 5:18) for God is at work and He is working them for our good and His glory. Prayers to give thanks to God: 1. Give thanks to God and what Christ has done for us, our families and loved ones, pray for guidance to raise a household of faith centred in Christ Jesus. 2. Give thanks for our pastors and leaders, pray for God to grant them wisdom and strength to make Godly decisions and lead with a shepherd’s heart. 3. Give thanks for our church, pray for our church to be a beacon of light in the community bringing blessings to many others. 7

Memorial Tree Camberwell Methodist Church In conjunction with the occasion of 35th Anniversary Thanksgiving By doing something visual like this for our church family, we are praying that, 2 messages will come through: 1. That GOD brought you here at this time and it is His doing, for a purpose. 2. Children and youth can see they also belong to this church family. They have a place here when they put up their family photo on the tree. This is one way to connect cross generationally. Anniversary is about them too...not something impersonal as this is OUR church family. 13
