\"Family Devotion 2021-09-26\" \"and how from childhood you have been acquainted with the sacred writings, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus.\" (2 Timothy 3:15 ESV) Helping kids become independent Isn't it ironic that the moment that dependant little child invades your life, you give your children love and respect, show confidence in your children's capabilities? You provide guidance and teach them that they have control over their lives and then the freedom to make their own decisions. As parents, you start working with them to become someday independent from you! It seems that all of your time with your child is to help them, not need you. But that is your calling and your purpose. How do you do it? Paul McKean shared the philosophy of his book is based on the Bible, structured to be practical to use and consider what one family did: As the children got older, we began studying Scripture together. Then we started to talk about their quiet times and the things we were learning in our walks with the Lord. From our journals, we shared what the Lord was teaching us. If we had a tough week, we felt free to talk about it and soak up the affirmation of our family. We took our concerns to the Lord in a spirit of oneness. We also helped Tanya and Todd develop goals for their own lives. We felt part of being independent is know where you are going. We helped our children assess the milestones they had already passed and the ideas they would like to see become a reality. We talked about colleges and careers and our purpose in life. We were able to have family prayers together, to dream dreams, some of which have already come true. One of the most practical things we did during our family times was talking about events to come. Each week we got out our calendar, looked at the commitments, and then planned the rest of the week. When the children were little, they were most interested in free time to play; but their activities began to match ours little by little. Looking at the calendar together has helped us take an active interest in one another's lives and avoid the miscommunications which plague busy families. Therefore, we could better pray for each other and understand the pressures and opportunities we shared. The Scriptures bring salvation only when one places their faith in Christ Jesus. As a family, what steps can you take this week to make Scripture a part of your children's daily lives? Paul and Jeanie McKean. Leading a child to independence: A positive approach to raising children through the teens., Here's Life Publishers (January 1, 1986), p 21. Praise: \"Trust and Obey\" – https://youtu.be/4dh02OnJpIE Prayer: Father God, we praise you as the gardener, who prunes us even when we are fruitful, so we become stronger and bear even more fruit. Lord Jesus, we praise you as the true vine, our source of all spiritual power and eternal fruitfulness. Lord, grow us into a lifestyle of abiding, as we remember that apart from you, we can do nothing of eternal value. Grow us to trust and obey your commands out of love for you. Father God, we claim victory to live a godly and holy life to the praise and honor of God. In Jesus' mighty name, we pray, Amen! 7

Board of Christian Social Concern 2021 August - September Prayer Points 14 “You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. 15 Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. 16 In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.” Matthew 5:14-16 NIV 1. Pray for CMCA identity to be a beacon of light in our local community and our city: Pray for the church to get to know our local community, be more aware of their needs and reach out to their needs in Christ’s love. Pray for God to use each church to build bridges with the community and grow His kingdom. 2. Pray for breakthrough in evangelism: Pray God help us live out the theme ’Caring for the community to reach the Lost.’ Pray for eyes that look beyond the walls of the church, equip members for evangelism to walk out into the community and see what God wants us to see and do what he wants us to do, pray for boldness to share God’s love and proclaim His name to bring the Lost into His kingdom. 3. Pray for Global Covid Pandemic - for God to have mercy on us and crush this virus - wisdom for world government leaders to make wise decisions not based on politics but united with the goal to fight the virus - protection and extra measure of strength for the frontline workers and families - healing for the sick, comfort for those grieving over the loss of their loved ones - those who lost their jobs, businesses, suffer financial loss - those who are lonely, isolated, depressed, vulnerable, fractured relationships - for orderly vaccine roll-out and people more responsive to take up vaccination 4. Pray to be good stewards of God’s Creations: Pray for God’s mercy on our over- consumption and wasteful use of resources causing increase in air pollution, climate change, massive bushfires and severe floods. Ask God to help us value His creations, to be good stewards of the creations entrusted to us and live our purpose faithfully. Pray for wisdom for world leaders to be united in a determined effort making policies to protect the environment, to conserve and use resources wisely. 5. Pray for The Aborigines: Pray for God to break down our own unconscious prejudice towards other races. Pray God restore the dignity of the indigenous people of this Land, bring them healing and peace for their past hurts and pains. Pray for the government to listen to their needs with compassion, and come up with policies to support and help improve their quality of life, and have a positive impact on their social and emotional well-being. 6. Pray for Afghanistan: Pray for the people of Afghanistan who are frightened and need to know the Prince of Peace; a. Pray for our Christian brothers and sisters, for protection, peace and strength, and that they'll be a light in their community; b. For our Prime Minister Scott Morrison as he considers Australia’s response to the refugees needing a safe harbour; c. For our Australian soldiers as they coordinate Australia’s critical and dangerous evacuation mission; d. For the Taliban, that the Holy Spirit would work to bring about conviction in their hearts and minds; e. For those Australians who have served in Afghanistan over the past 20 years, many of whom returned home with physical and invisible scars and may be wondering why. 9
