@ WEEKLY BIBLE VERSE ? Isaiah 40:31 but they who wait for the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles; they shall run and not be weary; they shall walk and not faint. (ESV) Family Altar 2023-07-30 Daniel Lived Out the Gospel SCRIPTURE Daniel 6:3-5, 14-22 In Daniel 6, apart from his daily personal prayer (Dan 6:10), we know nothing about Daniel’s personal or religious life. We don’t know if he was involved in any kind of social or religious good causes, or if he went around evangelising the Babylonians. We see Daniel mainly in his daily secular work, serving a pagan government. But one thing is clear: Daniel lived out the Gospel. People see Daniel’s life. Daniel’s enemies found him to be “faithful” and without “negligence or corrupon” when they atempted to make accusaons against him on government affairs (v.4). But a good tesmony for God is not always atracve to pre- believers. The effect could be the opposite instead, as in Daniel’s case (v.5). Darius’ response to his casng Daniel into the lions’ den by his mistake (vv.14-15, 18-19) shows how highly he valued Daniel for his commitment to the state’s well-being. Perhaps, what Daniel could say about himself is of great significance: “I was found innocent before God” (v.22). Daniel walked with God in such a way that he could have such confidence about himself with humble honesty. People see Daniel’s God. For Darius, the God of Daniel was central in Daniel’s crisis that he had caused: “Your God” (vv.16, 20). Darius saw Daniel’s God in the later’s life, not just his integrity. We do not know how Darius saw God in Daniel’s life. But we know he saw the reality of God in Daniel. It must be that this reality was manifested in how Daniel lived his life and did his work. OBSERVATION What do the acts and words of Daniel’s enemies (vv.3-5) and King Darius (vv.14, 18-19) toward Daniel tell us about him? APPLICATION What do people see and say about my life? PRAYER Write a prayer to God as your response from your meditaon on and applicaon of the Scriptures. PRAYER POINTS Give thanks & praise; Pray for the Generaons: That parents will live out the Gospel and model it for the children; Pray for those in need. As per our CMCA calendar 30th July 2023 is the Theological Education Sunday. Theological Education Sunday is the day when church reflects on the contribution and significances of Theological educations. And at the same time, we remember those who are directly or indirectly involved in theological education, be it students, teachers, or other supporting roles. CMCA currently has 2 sponsored Theological Students under BoTESF. Please continue to keep them in your prayers, and to support them in this wonderful journey of faith. They are: a. Richard Leong, a. Perth, Western Australia, Third year student, graduating 2024 b. Edwin Qin a. Brisbane, Queensland, Second year student, graduating 2025 In 2022, under the urge of the former Bishop Rev Albert Wong and Rev Yuk Chong Liong, the board proposed the 10-Year Vision, and was adopted by the Annual Conference. The 10-Year Vision in short is that within 10 years (2011-2030) the board plans to help 20 Theological Students to fill the vacancy of Retired Pastors and Long-Term Missionaries in CMCA. The goal of 20 Theological Students does not include the additional pastoral resources required for the organic growth of CMCA churches. Based on current arrangement, it costs $900,000 to support 20 Theological Students, an average of $90,000 a year. Therefore, in 2023, we have set an offering target of $90,000 to support our ministry. During this coming Theological Education Sunday, the Board would like to appeal to various churches under CMCA to support our Theological Education Scholarship Fund. Traditionally a second offering will be collected during Theological Sunday service for this purpose. Some churches might have different arrangement but that’s fine. The main objective is that we are participating in this in unity. We understand offering for one Sunday may be limited, therefore in order not to put too much pressure on individual church and member, we encourage brothers and sisters in Christ to contribute to BoTESF in other occasions directly via bank details below: Account Name: Chinese Methodist Church in Australia Inc BSB: 013-225 Account: 268138975 (Please specify offering to BoTesF during transaction so the fund will be allocated correctly.) We thank you in advance for your continual support to BoTESF. Should you have further questions on BoTESF’s ministry please feel free to contact us [email protected] . We look forward to a fruitful Theological Sunday this year. In Christ, Dennis Wong 9 BoTESF Chairperson
