Devotion Week 7: 21st March 2021 Theme: Tough Minded Faith for Tender Hearted People Hymn: Eye Of The Storm - [Lyric Video] Ryan Stevenson https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X2FqFLKisys Bible Verses: Psalm 93:4 ESV Mightier than the thunders of many waters, mightier than the waves of the sea, the LORD on high is mighty! Faith is surfing on the waves. I enjoy the seashore, where the water laps lazily over the sandy edge. It is there I find tranquillity and creativity. One occasion, I watched surfers ride the wonderful and wild waves a Bell beach, Torquay. They inspire and motivate me! Quietly, patiently, the surfers lie waiting on their slender surfboards, poised and ready to leap to action at any moment! Suddenly, there it is! The beginning of a swell in the ocean foretells the birth of a wave. The surfer suddenly leaps on his surfboard, catching the rising crest of the fresh breaking wave. He is lifted high and carried far by the curling, sweeping, arching, and flight of foam. The ride is on. Bending knees absorb the shocks, swells and swirls. Arms outstretched slice the wind like eagles wings. The trusting torso struggles to maintain balance. From time to time the waves win out as the sportsman is wiped out – sent off his board and into the sea. But riding or falling he wins! His challenge to the surf has won him victory over fear. And so he ends in safe shallows where he turns and paddles out again to catch the next wave. Faith is surfing on the waves of life. Faith faces the fears and turns the negative into a positive. 8
Proverbs 3:26 ESV For the LORD will be your confidence and will keep your foot from being caught. Faith meets success at the point of failure. For example, the pole vaulter who runs and then vaults over the bar a little higher each time never really know how high he can jump until he fails to scale the bar. He succeeds when he fails. For failure isn’t a matter of not reaching your goal. Failure is failing to give your project all that you’ve got! Success is achieving the maximum of your potential in the situation you are in. When you honestly have attempted your ultimate best, then you have been successful, in spite of failure. The people who are really failures are the people who set their standards so low, keep the bar at such a safe level, that they never run the risk of failure. Faith is daring to face an embarrassing failure. It’s only after the pole vaulter knocks down the bar raised to its highest level that he knows he’s jumped as high as he can – today! Success comes at the point where we can’t do any better than we are doing at this moment. Reflection: When you encounter the eye of the storm, do you turn fear into a positive and surf on the waves of lives? Are you doing your very best, knocking down the high bar? Prayer 9
Board of Mission 2021 ‘$1 a DAY for Mission’ Campaign Dear Minister-in-Charge and Pastors, As you know, ‘$1 a day for mission’ is one of the main sources of income for CMCA Board of Mission. We hope to continue this campaign to raise awareness for mission in 2020-2021. We found these ideas for piggy bank craft using recycle bottles very interesting and would recommend your Sunday school to explore further for 2020 Piggy Bank project for KIDS4Mission (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iou_W3iIqtk&ab_channel=FindIdea or https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DnrCJeuGA2k&ab_channel=Isa%27sWorld ). We hope Sunday school children will make their own ‘piggy bank’ and use it to save money for mission. We hope parents can get involve with their children and contribute toward the campaign as well. Please send the donation of ‘$1 a day for mission’ together with all the contributions collected on Mission Sunday (22/8/2021) to CMCA account before Oct 2021. Be sure to list out the fund collected separately as “$1 a day for mission” when sending it to AC Account. Immanuel, Rev David Tiong (Board of Mission) 10
