@ WEEKLY BIBLE VERSE ? Philippians 4:6 do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. (ESV) Family Altar 2023-08-06 Leaders Can Become Beastly Leaders (1) SCRIPTURE: Daniel 7:1-8 In his exposion of Daniel 7, Bible scholar and pastor, Gordon Wong, focuses on leaders and leadership, which he entled, “When ‘Monsters’ Rule.” Daniel 7 “begins by relang a vision of four kinds of leaders, four kinds of kings” (vv.4-8), and “we are meant to recognise in these figures the different kinds of kings or kingdoms, leaders and governments, which rule on earth”. These are human beings, but they are portrayed as animal-like figures: “lion”, “bear” and “leopard” (vv.4-6) that are “morphed into myscal monsters”. And the “fourth beast” is not even likened to any other animal (vv.7-8). These are human beings who become beastly leaders, with some being more monstrous than others. The number of beasts – “four” (v.3) – represents “a symbol of completeness rather than a parcular number of world empires”. The number “four” symbolises “all” the superpowers in history. The message of Daniel 7 is that “life in this present age will always be this way unl the end of the age. It is striking that the superpowers of our own age sll customarily represent themselves by predatory animals, such as the Russian bear, the Chinese dragon and the American eagle. The beasts of this present world order may change their shape as the centuries pass, but their violence and lust for power connues”. Daniel 7 shows us how to look at and live in our contemporary geopolical situaons. The “four great beasts” come up from the sea when “the four winds of heaven” sr up the sea (vv.2-3). The “four winds” come from “Heaven that rules” (Dan 4:26). OBSERVATION What is the significance of the content of Daniel’s vision in verses 2 to 3? APPLICATION How do I look at and live in the contemporary geopolical situaon? PRAYER Write a prayer to God as your response from your meditaon on and applicaon of the Scriptures. PRAYER POINTS Give thanks and praise; Pray for Outreach/Missions; Pray for those in need; Pray for self. SONG King of Kings htps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QSnGYGr7sPg 7

As per our CMCA calendar 30th July 2023 is the Theological Education Sunday. Theological Education Sunday is the day when church reflects on the contribution and significances of Theological educations. And at the same time, we remember those who are directly or indirectly involved in theological education, be it students, teachers, or other supporting roles. CMCA currently has 2 sponsored Theological Students under BoTESF. Please continue to keep them in your prayers, and to support them in this wonderful journey of faith. They are: a. Richard Leong, a. Perth, Western Australia, Third year student, graduating 2024 b. Edwin Qin a. Brisbane, Queensland, Second year student, graduating 2025 In 2022, under the urge of the former Bishop Rev Albert Wong and Rev Yuk Chong Liong, the board proposed the 10-Year Vision, and was adopted by the Annual Conference. The 10-Year Vision in short is that within 10 years (2011-2030) the board plans to help 20 Theological Students to fill the vacancy of Retired Pastors and Long-Term Missionaries in CMCA. The goal of 20 Theological Students does not include the additional pastoral resources required for the organic growth of CMCA churches. Based on current arrangement, it costs $900,000 to support 20 Theological Students, an average of $90,000 a year. Therefore, in 2023, we have set an offering target of $90,000 to support our ministry. During this coming Theological Education Sunday, the Board would like to appeal to various churches under CMCA to support our Theological Education Scholarship Fund. Traditionally a second offering will be collected during Theological Sunday service for this purpose. Some churches might have different arrangement but that’s fine. The main objective is that we are participating in this in unity. We understand offering for one Sunday may be limited, therefore in order not to put too much pressure on individual church and member, we encourage brothers and sisters in Christ to contribute to BoTESF in other occasions directly via bank details below: Account Name: Chinese Methodist Church in Australia Inc BSB: 013-225 Account: 268138975 (Please specify offering to BoTesF during transaction so the fund will be allocated correctly.) We thank you in advance for your continual support to BoTESF. Should you have further questions on BoTESF’s ministry please feel free to contact us [email protected] . We look forward to a fruitful Theological Sunday this year. In Christ, Dennis Wong 9 BoTESF Chairperson
