Devotion Week 9: 4th April 2021 Theme: Living HOPE- Because He lives Hymn: Because He Lives Because He lives, I can face tomorrow, Because He lives, all fear is gone; Because I know, He holds the future, And life is worth the living, just because He lives. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eI0jfzwqVNY 1Peter 1:3 (NIV) “Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! In his great mercy he has given us new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead.” Peter wrote this to the Jewish Christians who were suffering and being persecuted for their faith. We too are now facing a crisis of global proportions with Covid 19 and global unrest. The dreaded Covid-19 crisis is threatening lives and livelihoods on a scale not experienced by most of us ever before. Yet no doubt the message to us is the same. Our faith is not as strong as we would like it to be but through all this, we know God is with us and therefore we have hope. We have a living hope that can withstand the storms of life regardless how dark the skies. This hope is an anchor for our soul, firm and secure. Real Christian hope, a blessing of our salvation, is always alive and never dies because we have been born to ‘a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead.’ Reflect: • How would you define hope? • What is the difference between the world’s kind of hope and the ‘living hope’ we have in Christ? • If you are struggling, perhaps going through a dark time of your soul, are you encouraged that our eternal destiny is with our Lord and this is only a passing thing? Prayer: Dear God, I know it is difficult when we are faced with sufferings and pains, it makes us doubt and question. Help us Lord to learn to live with our brokenness, help us see your goodness and mercies and stand firm and secure in you. Lord, we thank you that you are an anchor for our soul, our living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead. And because He lives, I can face tomorrow, Because He lives, all fear is gone; Because I know He holds the future, And life is worth the living just because He lives. In Jesus’ name, we pray Amen

Board of Mission 2021 ‘$1 a DAY for Mission’ Campaign Dear Minister-in-Charge and Pastors, As you know, ‘$1 a day for mission’ is one of the main sources of income for CMCA Board of Mission. We hope to continue this campaign to raise awareness for mission in 2020-2021. We found these ideas for piggy bank craft using recycle bottles very interesting and would recommend your Sunday school to explore further for 2020 Piggy Bank project for KIDS4Mission (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iou_W3iIqtk&ab_channel=FindIdea or https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DnrCJeuGA2k&ab_channel=Isa%27sWorld ). We hope Sunday school children will make their own ‘piggy bank’ and use it to save money for mission. We hope parents can get involve with their children and contribute toward the campaign as well. Please send the donation of ‘$1 a day for mission’ together with all the contributions collected on Mission Sunday (22/8/2021) to CMCA account before Oct 2021. Be sure to list out the fund collected separately as “$1 a day for mission” when sending it to AC Account. Immanuel, Rev David Tiong (Board of Mission) 9

Redeemer Methodist Church Chinese Methodist Church in Australia Church Building Pledge Towards the end of 2008, the LCEC of Carlton Methodist Church, led by Rev Gloria Ling initiated a church planting vision in the greater Sydney area. After a period of prayer, research and searching for a suitable location, The City of Parramatta was finally identified as the potential area for our church plant, this also facilitated the attendance of Sunday services for our brothers and sisters who live in the North and North-West of Sydney. The City of Parramatta, part of western Sydney is targeted by the state government as Sydney's second CBD, and has attracted many immigrants, including Chinese as their home. By 2041, its population is forecasted to grow to half a million, double its current population. On 5th July 2009, the first thanksgiving Sunday service was held at The Centenary Uniting Church in Parramatta (rented premises) and thus, Parramatta Preaching Point (PPP) was born. Not by might, nor by power, but by my Spirit, says the LORD of hosts. Zechariah 4:6 In the following years, under the shepherding and nurturing of Rev Gloria Ling, Rev Kong Eing Tiong, Rev Kam Lee, Rev Chiu and Rev David Tiong, and the effort of brothers and sisters, the membership and finance of the church gradually improve and stabilise. With the blessing of the Lord, on the 8th of Jan 2017 Bishop Dr Rev James Kwang inaugurated PPP as Redeemer Methodist Church (RMC) as a testament to the grace and faithfully of our Lord, Jesus Christ. Under the Lord’s providence and care, RMC continues to grow, but more space is need for future development of the Church. The Centenary Uniting Church (our landlord) is unable to provide the extra time slot needed for us to grow and we are unable to find a more suitable location to rent in the nearby area. Under such circumstances, on 29th June 2017 the LCEC agreed to establish the church building committee to kick start our church building project to better serve the needs of our ministry. After years of prayer and fundraising, and with the generosity, dedication and support of our brothers and sisters, RMC raised nearly $600,000 church building fund by the end of 2020. So, the Church building committee began looking for a suitable site for our church building aggressively. Unless the LORD builds the house, those who build it labour in vain. Unless the LORD watches over the city, the watchman stays awake in vain. Psalms 127:1 Entering the 2021 Lunar New Year, on 16/2 evening at an auction, we secured the property at 3 Hartley Road, Seven Hills, NSW (on the fringe of the City of Parramatta, part of Western Sydney) for $626,000 (plus stamp duty and handling fees ~ $650,000) for our church building project. Once again, we witness the goodness and faithfulness of God. We also need $200,000 for renovations, equipment and furniture, a total of $850,000. We pray and hope that as our brothers and sisters in Christ, for the love of God and his people, you will graciously contribute toward the fund we needed to complete our vision of building a church, a spiritual lighthouse for the greater western Sydney and expand the Kingdom of God. May all glory be to God. RMC Minister-in-charge, Church Building Committee Chair, ________________________ ________________________ Rev David Tiong Brother Kai King Ling 11
