Devotion Week 21: 27th June 2021 Theme: Connecting with God through PRAYER Reading: Luke: 11:1-13 Hymn: Whisper A Prayer In The Morning Whisper a prayer In The morning, Whisper a prayer at noon Whisper a prayer in the evening, To keep your heart in tune. God answers prayer in the morning, God answers prayer at noon God answers prayer in the evening, So keep your heart in tune. Jesus may come in the morning, Jesus may come at noon Jesus may come in the evening, So keep your heart in tune. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k7ywmlv8Hu8 Luke 11:1 (NIV) ‘One day Jesus was praying in a certain place. When he finished, one of his disciples said to him, “Lord, teach us to pray, just as John taught his disciples.’ When the disciples requested Jesus, “Teach us to pray,” Jesus responded by giving them, and us an excellent model of prayer. The key thing about the Lord’s prayer as Jesus taught us, is its utter simplicity. It is so simple that any child can pray yet it is powerful because it reaches all the way to God. So, start small and as you continue to pray more, your capacity for prayer will also grow larger. Our greatest difficulty is not knowing how to pray. Our greatest need is simply to pray more and more. For if the Bible is God talking to us, then prayer is us talking to God. Talk to God, He’s listening! Prayer is the way of getting connected to our almighty, all-knowing and all-loving God. When we know how much God loves and cares for us, we’ll feel comfortable sharing everything, even our most intimate thoughts and desires with him. God wants us to be real as we talk with Him and open up about our deepest concerns, fears, and struggles. You can tell God anything and everything. You can tell Him when you are angry or hurt or disappointed. God is not surprised by anything we mention. You can be honest with God! God knows you inside out! Reflect: • What are some of the things holding you back from praying? • Are you concerned that your prayers are not ‘good enough’? • Do you pour out your heart to God? Are you honest with God? Prayer: Abba Father, teach us to come to you with a childlike confidence, simple and trusting in our heavenly Father. Lord, we do not know how to pray but we know that we can be honest to share everything with you and you are listening, in Jesus’ name we pray Amen. 7

CMCA Mercy Methodist Church 11.06.2021 Dear Reverends, Pastors, Brothers and Sisters in Christ of CMCA, Peace in the Lord! We thank God for His grace and love for choosing us to serve the Him with one heart and one mind in all the churches and preaching point in Australia! 1. Our Story It all began in September 2013, with the encouragement of then Bishop Kwang, under the leadership of Rev. Alexis Lui and LCEC of EMP Methodist Church, the first Chinese Worship Service of EMP Preaching Point was held at a rented venue at Sunnybank Community Centre in Brisbane, giving birth to a church planting ministry. After about a year, due to the increased rental cost of the Sunny bank venue, the church then secured the rental of Mansfield Christian Reformed Church venue in January 2015 (the current rented worship place) to continue to reach out to the Chinese community and entrusted a group of brothers and sisters from EMP Methodist Church to commit and serve in the Preaching Point. Praise the Lord, for over the next few years, through the passionate pastoral care of Rev. Alexis Lui and Rev. Tay and the faithful brothers and sisters in serving the Lord, the congregation number and the financial capability of the Preaching Point gradually increased. 2. Establishment of Mercy Methodist Church In order to move towards becoming a church, a working committee team (including the church building team) was set up at the end of 2018 with the consent of the LCEC and Reverends of the EMP Methodist Church, in order to work together with EMP church executive committee to manage the ministries in the preaching point. By the grace of the Lord, the inauguration of the Chinese Methodist Church of Australia (CMCA) Mercy Methodist Church was held during the Thanksgiving Sunday Service on 29th December, 2019 under the auspices of Bishop Albert Wong. 3. Church Purchase Plan As a relatively newly established Church, building or purchasing an existing church is an extremely challenging task. However, the executive committee of Mercy Methodist Church, the church building team, and brothers and sisters have the same vision that Mercy Methodist Church needed to have our own worship venue to continue to expand its church ministries mainly because: ) Our Sunday Service is allocated to 3:00pm as the current rented venue also accommodates the worship times of other congregations. 2) We do not have a formal lease agreement for the rented venue, and so may be forced to relocate at any time. 3) There is a lack of classrooms for adult and children's Sunday School classes at the current venue, therefore some of the Sunday school classes are currently held at home prior to Sunday Service. 8

Memorial Tree for Camberwell Methodist Church In conjunction with the occasion of 35th Anniversary Thanksgiving By doing something visual like this for our church family, we are praying that, 2 messages will come through: 1. That GOD brought you here at this time and it is His doing, for a purpose. 2. Children and youth can see they also belong to this church family. They have a place here when they put up their family photo on the tree. This is one way to connect cross generationally. Anniversary is about them too...not something impersonal as this is OUR church family. 13
