Mentoring Around 2010, a major UGL initiative was launched aimed at supporting new Initiates through the formative stages of their membership of a Lodge. A Provincial Mentor was appointed and is supported by Group Mentors and individual Lodge Mentors. The aim of Freemasonry is to make good men better; our values being based on integrity, kindness, honesty and fairness with Members urged to regard the interests of the family as paramount. It also teaches and practises concern for people, care for the less fortunate and help for those in need. The mentoring initiative works to underpin this message by informing and
encouraging new members through the various stages of becoming a full member of a Lodge, and by providing personal support to help them understand the allegorical lessons which they are experiencing in the ceremonies. Hopefully, as a result of mentoring, each member will continue to contribute to the health and vitality of the Lodge and society in general over the long term The current Group Mentor is W. Bro Raymond Pye, P. Pr. G. Sup of Wks, a member of Corinthian Lodge 2350. W. Bro. Roy Brookes P. Pr. G. Sup of Wks (member of Borsdane Lodge 6460) is the Guest Lodge Mentor. Our thanks are offered to Roy for his commitment to mentoring and the work he has undertaken on behalf of the Lodge over a number of years. A similar initiative is in place for the Holy Royal Arch, and the Royal Arch Contact in Corinthian Lodge is W. Bro George Cunliffe Gentlemen to Dine. Sadly, after having many successful years we now have fewer Lodge Socials, W. Bro. Andrew Leather was the last Social Secretary and when he left the lodge in around 2003 he was not replaced, events now being arranged when circumstances permit. In the eighties and early nineties we had a very successful Social Committee and they would be organising around four Socials a year which would raise considerable amounts of money for Lodge funds, but the main purpose of these socials as far as Corinthian Lodge was concerned was to invite non masons and their partners to these functions in order that they may have the opportunity to see the Social side of Freemasonry. Corinthian Lodge recruited many new members through these Socials Since the demise of Socials the Lodge as turned to inviting Non Masons to the festive Board on Old English Nights and Ladies and Gentlemen to Dine at our December, Festive meeting. The purpose of inviting Non Masons to the festive board is let them have an insight into what Freemasonry is about and hopefully they will in turn become future Members. Hindley Masonic Hall I feel that it would be very remiss of me not to mention the sterling work which has been carried out by those Brethren from the Lodges which meet at Hindley Masonic Hall and have served on the various Hall Committees over the years, also I like those Brethren who have made donations of money
towards the upkeep of the Hall. Without a Hall we have no Freemasonry, and this message comes across loud and clear When I joined Freemasonry thirty eight years ago Hindley Masonic Hall was a far different Place to what it is today. Following the new extension in the nineties, the Hall Committee have work tirelessly to keep updating the fabric of the building, New Kitchens, Bar , toilets and disable access with a new lift and ramps, I could go on forever there is so much which has been achieved and we now have a Masonic Hall to be proud of. Following a further extension in 2008 the R.W. Bro. Peter John Hosker Provincial Grand Master opened the extension on the 15th December 2008 I was privileged to be at the opening Ceremony which i will always remember. This hard work continues and recent renovations and redecoration have been concluded in the bar/dining area together with chair storage facilities. Acknowledgements At this point can I thank Bros. Peter Newell, Barry Slater and W. Bro. George Cunliffe for all the hard work they have done over the past two years to ensure the 125th Anniversary is a success. Also, I feel it is only right that I should mention the hard work and dedication to Corinthian Lodge of the late W.Bro. Norman Waters-Webb who had researched the first hundred years of the Lodge History and published the Centenary Booklet. Can I also thank W.Bro. Raymond Pye and W.Bro. Christopher Reeman for their contribution. When researching anything there always things left out which people think should be mention and are important, if this has been the case I apologise. Finally, I hope you have enjoyed reading this booklet as much as I have enjoyed researching the past 25 years of Corinthian Lodge history.
