Furzedown Summer Festival Inside Story: How The Sunday Times smashed FIFA’s ring of corruption Charles Hymas was head of news at The Sunday Times when it undertook its five-year investigation into corruption at the heart of world football. With the famed Insight team, they pursued leads across four continents finally to bring Sepp Blatter and his cronies at Fifa to justice. He will provide the inside story on the cloak and dagger mission where two Sunday Times journalists posed as middle men for a nation bidding to stage the World Cup and discovered some of the delegates who would decide the winner had already been bought up by another bidding nation. Scroll forward five years to an office whirring with the latest computer technology, hidden away in a non-descript house on a high street in Beeston, Nottinghamshire. It was the final chapter in The Sunday Times investigation that brought Sepp Blatter’s empire down.
