A review on the future strategy of the Young Solicitors Group (“YSG”) was completed during the year. With the refined terms of reference and composition, YSG aims to be an effective platform for sharing experience and ideas among junior solicitors and trainee solicitors and for enhancing their communication with more senior members of The Law Society. The Law Society also provides a structured framework for our members to participate in community and pro bono work and we are grateful for the enthusiastic support of members. The number of awardees in The Law Society’s annual Pro Bono and Community Work Recognition Programme keeps increasing every year. In 2019, a record-breaking number of 282 applications were received. 35 law firms and 179 lawyers have been duly recognized for their distinguished contributions with various awards. All in all, 2019 has been an eventful year. I am very honoured to be trusted with the opportunity to serve the profession. I extend my deepest gratitude to my fellow Council members, committee members and the Secretariat for their unfailing support. Many challenges lie ahead, but I am confident that with our united effort, our profession will continue to thrive and evolve into a better shape for the benefit of our future generations. Melissa K.
