Food & Ag Baked Food Products Plant – Bulk Flour Silos Biodegradable Food Container Plant – Dust Explosion Prevention

PLANT SYSTEMS ENGINEERING BULK FLOUR SILOS: BAKED FOOD PRODUCTS PLANT Project Requirements: A Pennsylvania Baked Food Product Plant wanted to eliminate buying bagged flour and install two truck filled bulk silos. Flour from the silos would be sifted and pneumatically conveyed to hoppers suspended from tension load cells above the dough mixers. Space for the silos was limited and the work had to be completed while many other trades were on site for other upgrades. Scope of Work: Active bin discharger and sifter support frame under cone of o Engineer foundations for silos bulk flour silos o Working with equipment vendors, detail all mechanical systems and interfaces to owners equipment o Equipment included: 9 Two 12’ diameter by 60’ welded steel silos 9 Active bin dischargers and sifters 9 Truck fill system to load the silos 9 Pressure pneumatic conveying system with diverters 9 Receiving hoppers suspended from tension load cells above owners dough mixers Two crane pick of silo prior to Overall view of bulk flour silos setting on concrete pad. after installation THE PLANT SYSTEMS GROUP, INC. 507 N. PLANT SYSTEMS ENGINEERING DUST EXPLOSION PREVENTION: BIO-DEGRADABLE FOOD CONTAINER PLANT Project Requirements: A new process had been developed to manufacture bio-degradable food containers from starch based products. The starch and other minor ingredients posed dust explosion hazards requiring a complete review and application of the codes. Scope of Work: Sodium bi-carbonate active suppression on process vessel o Coordinate testing of materials at third party laboratory. o Apply test results to NFPA 61, 68 and 69 to enable design of appropriate passive and active explosion protection systems. o Review designs and calculations with the authority having jurisdiction and owners insurance. o Coordinate purchasing of all explosion protection equipment. o Provide detailed engineering design of all systems and equipment interfaces. o Oversee installation Stainless steel explosion vent Roof top dust collector with ducts to carry products of explosion vents deflagration to outside.
