A thing of beauty is a joy forever God is the ultimate gift-giver, and I never am - John Keats reminded of this more than at this time of year. Because at Christmas, God Himself put on human 2021 DECEMBER | 7 flesh to come down to earth to be born a man. Jesus came to dwell among men so that He could show us how much God loves us, so He could show us what God is really like. This unchangeable truth is something I can believe, something I can fully put my trust in. Because God is more than wishful thinking or hoping, He is real ― as real as it gets. And so is the gift He offers all through His Son Jesus Christ ― the best gift ever. Think how disappointed you would be if someone never opened the gift you carefully selected just for him or her. The person would never experience the joy and love or know the thought you put into that gift. Worst of all, he or she would never receive the blessing that could have been theirs because of failure to open the gift. It’s a missed opportunity on all accounts. Open and reopen the gift this Christmas that God sent just for you. This gift may seem too good to be true because nothing you or I can do can earn or deserve it. It was simply given in love by the One who knows us best, the One who knew just what we needed. I don’t know what happened to my Charlie McCarthy doll. I put him aside because he wasn’t real, and it was time to leave him behind. But the gift that God gives, the one I am so blessed to have opened and received, goes with me. Jesus is the gift that keeps on giving.
