Near? DOG-FRIENDLY FAYETTEVILLE Frequent walking and playing are important parts to keeping our furry friends happy and healthy. While a stroll around the neighborhood is fun, eventually sniffing the same mailbox post might not be as engaging as it once was. Luckily, Fayetteville has some wonderful places to add little more variety to the daily adventure, for you and your dog. The Cape Fear River Trail is a paved path that takes walkers, joggers and bikers through the woods and alongside the beautiful Cape Fear River. One-way, the trail is 5.3 miles long and includes a 1,000-foot bridge that spans the wetlands and marsh. It offers a beautiful view of some of the different ecosystems native to North Carolina. It even includes interpretive signs detailing 700 species of plants and 150 species of birds. As long as they are on leashes, pets are welcome to explore this trail with their owners. According to the court, “the sentimental bond between a humanand his or her pet companion can neither be quantified in monetary terms or compensated for under our currentlaw.” Emotional damages for the loss of a pet are not recoverable in North Carolina. Under current law, if our pet is negligently harmed or killed by another person or animal, the damages availablein a lawsuit are limited. Even though homeowners insurance may cover the damages of your pet harming anotherperson, it will not cover veterinary bills for our own pet or for its loss.
