ACADEMY TIMESExperts speak“I am Prof. Howard, I am an ENT surgeon from USA andI’m very much honoured to spend 2 days here at Meriland Meril Academy. The reason for my being here isto conduct a 2-day conclave of sinus surgeons who camefrom India and to teach them about Balloon Sinuplasty, anew technology from Meril. The meeting itself was a wonderfulgathering of individuals. These were mostly physicians who hadexperience of sinuplasty, for some they do few cases and other they have done many. What Ithink was very valuable, was to be able to have physicians in a group to interact with each other, so itwasn’t just a bunch of lectures, but it was a physicians who were able to talk about their experiencesand ask questions related to their practices and to give input into all of this. The live cases arealways wonderful. There was one case which was very difcult. The other case had a very smallcomplication and i think it is good to have a small event so the physicians can learn how to managethat. We had a very rich and wonderful discussion about how to deal with the sudden situation andthe input doesn’t come from me as a physician as much as the attendees recognise that there wasa problem and then were able to give their thoughts and idea about how to deal with this. Overall Ihave to say the ability to have a few lectures and learn about physicians experience not just minefrom United States but those experiences from physicians in India is very important. Live surgery isalways very difcult for surgeon who is doing it, who is doing it in front of large number of people. If i had to say what I wish we could have done that was to have more time, but there is never enoughtime. Having more time, would have permitted more exchange of ideas between the physicians, toraise more questions, to hear more comments from physicians in India. I wish they would havedone that but the difculty is for Physician to travel and its very hard to give time from their home andpractise. All the physicians were visiting Meril Academy campus for the rst time and for me it was aextremely pleasant surprise. I had no idea what I would see, what I would nd, but to see the beautyof the campus, to see the work environment for all the people at Meril, that was so beautiful, relaxing, comfortable, permitting them to achieve a very high level. Seeing the Meril Campus, entering R & D and manufacturing for me and every physicians who has never been here had anopportunity to see and learn about creativity and innovation. To see what the academy is, a separate free standing educational facility, that architecturally isbeautiful and has all of the things needed for education was a very important part. What Merilstands for and what their mission is, to me speaks to the fact that this isn’t a company just aboutselling devices but it is about trying to get position to learn and learn in the best way, make this safefor every one of their patient. Overall it was the absolute wonderful surprise for me to come andbeing part of this event, to have been engaged with the sessions and certainly I will be here for manymore such events.” Prof. Dr. Howard L. Levine Director - Cleveland Nasal-Sinus & Sleep Centre, USA

I found the overall facility, auditorium infrastructure, and ambience as per international standards. The participation of delegates from different parts of India as well as visiting international delegates was active and got engaged in the program. Moreover the scientic programs which have been out touch all the aspects of joint replacement surgery of both knee and hip. Be it the recent research, experience of visiting faculty, the choice of the faculty , everything was very eminent and also important part of this academic feast. Most of the faculty had experience of 15-20 years andl i s t ening to them, the presentations were very lucid and scientic. This initiative by Meril Life Sciences tobring delegates from different parts of the world under one roof and also bringing academicians and bring people who arepioneer in their eld in different part of the world to come under one roof and share knowledge is an excellent approach incarrying this medical education forward.” Dr. Atul Misra Director and Head – Orthopaedics, Fortis Hospital, Noida
ACADEMY TIMES “ Besides impressive facility, the debates were really teachingful which was an essential part of the conference. I really liked the way Meril has organized the Conference as the environment was very interactive and the young crowd could ask their questions without any hesitations. Good speakers of the level of TCT/ PCR and live cases made the course almost perfect. It was for the rst time that we visited any company’s manufacturing facility, and was so clean. We had a precise explanation of each and every step of the manufacturing protocols followed.” Dr. Marc Silvestri Interventional Cardiologist, France “The experience has been extremely fabulous and found the facilities really very good, especially the audio-visuals and the hospitality provided to us. I could see that there is a lot of training that goes on in Meril Academy for Endoscopic surgery and Orthopedic Surgery through Live cases. So,would like to make a suggestion that you should have an Endovascular procedure simulator for training the people who will use your endovascular devices and lastly was that we are very happy to have been here; it’s been an enjoyable experience and would like to place on record my appreciation for all that have been done by Meril to foster training and learning amongst the people who take care of patients.” Surg.
