Amazing Basketball “ Bounce, bounce!” goes the basketball as it dribbles down full court. Ava jolts suddenly when reached to the basket. Her opponent’s arms are waving frantically above her face, blocking her from shooting. Her face is drenched in sweat, focused on the next step. So then she pivots backward and swiftly passes it to her teammate who is open. Afterwards she jabs and aims for the backboard. Squeaks of her shoes are vibrating in the gym. The ball circles around the rim and falls into the basket. Ava’s team scores and earned two points. Basketball is a common sport that people around the world liked to play. This sport was originated in the United States. How this sport became so popular is because allyou need is a pair of sneaker, a ball, and a person who is willing to win or lose.Shooting and PointsIf it’s in a game your team usually earns two points. If it is a free throw and you make it in, thenyour team earns 3 points. A free throw is when you shoot fromoutside the 3 point line. When you shoot you have to position your armup right in a 90 degree angle and aim for the backboard. When youdribble down full court to your team’s basket and your opponents arechasing after the ball, it is probably the best choice to make a layup. Alayup is a two point shot attempt made my leaping from below. Thenusing one hand to bounce it off the backboard and into the basket. But you don’t always have to touch the backboard, you can justdribble and shoot while you are running.Defending The most basic rule of defending is to stay between your man and the basket. This way so that when your opponent tries to shoot but doesn’t make it in, you can get their rebound. When you guard someone, you have to have your arms straight up in front of the person, not around. Because then the opponent will escape from you by just dribbling through. This technique is good because your opponent will have a difficult time deciding on where to pass or dribble. Moreover, once that person has come to a stop, they will not be able to dribble again otherwise that is a foul which is double dribble.Fouls and Rules
There are many ways to get a foul. Like double team, that is when two or more people areguarding one person at the same time who has the ball. Another one is traveling, this is whenyou are walking with the ball in your hand and not dribbling. When your team gets a foul, it isthe other team’s ball, so we check it. However when there is jump ball the rules are a bitdifferent. This is where you and the opponent are fighting over the ball, after five seconds youusually have to do rock paper scissor and whoever wins gets it. Checking is when you arebounce passing to a person from the other team, and whichever team’s ball it is, it ends up withthem. So then they have to try to dribble back to their basket without someone stealing orlosing control. Now that you know the basics of basketball, why don’t you grab a ball and play a gameof basketball with your friends. You can put all the skills you have learned together into thegame. Forming teams will make your game super fun because you’ll have teammates. C’mon, you know you want to do it.
