Chess By: Steven K1)Introduction2)Rules3)Pieces4)Tournaments/Tournaments Rules5)Chess Today6)Helpful WebsitesIntroduction:“Chess is played by millions of people worldwide, both beginners and professionals.”There are even blind people who plays chess and more others…A game might end in a draw, when you can’t checkmate with only the pieces you have. Whenthe two players repeat their moves repeatedly three times or when the two players shakes handsto show that it’s a draw.Rules:The rules for chess is simple. The most important rule… Is that you can’t move into check. Whatthat means is basically that you can’t move into restraint or control. There are lots of rules thatwe know. Another one is that you can’t castle when there is an attacking spot between the

squares you’re castling to, you can’t castle when you’re in check, and when your king moved orthe side of the rook/castle. Castling is when there is no pieces between any sided rook/castle andthe king (the most important piece in a game) and you either castle to the right or to the left. Theking moves either two squares to the right or left. And the rook moves to the other side of the king. Pieces: There are 32 pieces in total. However each player only has half (16). There are many different types of pieces. Such as the King (most important and the most useless piece): worth the game, the Queen (most the useful and second most power powerful piece): worth 9 points, the Rook/Castle : worth 5 points, the Bishop : worth 3 points, Knight/Horse (moves in a L shape) : worth3 points, and the pawns (a special ability) : worth 1 point and can turn into 3,5 and 9 points!Intro to pieces:Piece:PawnWay to eat/take: diagonal and another special way unless blocked.Way to move: straight on it’s lettered column unless blocked.Specials: when it gets to the opposite side it can turn into a Queen, a Rook/Castle, a knight and a bishop unless blocked.Piece:knightWay to eat/take: eat/take in a L shape, move two square straight and 1 square in another direction or the opposite unless blocked or creates a check.Way to move: moves in a L shape, move two square straight and 1 square in another direction or the opposite unless blocked or creates a check.Piece:BishopWay to eat/take: eat/take diagonally unless blocked or creates a check.Way to move: moves diagonally unless blocked or creates a check.Piece: Rook/CastleWay to eat/take: straight only unless blocked or creates a check.Way to move: straight only unless blocked or creates a check.

Piece: QueenWay to eat/take: diagonally or straight straight only unless blocked or creates a check.Way to move: diagonally or straight straight only unless blocked or creates a check.Piece: KingWay to eat/take: takes the 8/7/6/5/4/3/2/1 square/s unless moves into check.Way to move: The 8/7/6/5/4/3/2/1 squares surrounding it.Tournaments:Chess tournaments are enjoyable and fun. Tournament are where chess players gather together torandomly versus another person.Click ‘Here’ To Watch An Example of one of the world champions play!Tournament Rules:One basic rule is ‘points’. Who comes 1st? Who comes 2nd? Who comes…It all comes down to the points. Before you learn about points you need to understand how manymatches there are. The totals of matches there are is... 7! If you win only 1/7 then at the end youwill probably the last few people in place depending on the other opponents you meet. The nextbasic rule is ‘fowling’. What do you do when someone moves into check, moves two moves at atime, and etc… If you/your opponent moves into check or something the obvious thing to do isto raise yo’ hand! When you raise yo’ hand, a judge ( some might be your teacher) should comeand ask what the problem is. Just tell him/her what happened and that is one foul for your

opponent/you. When you get two fouls (normally it’s two) and the person who gets the twofowls is ‘DEFEATED’.Another basic rule, ‘Timeout’. Timeout is just when your have no more time left. How you usetiming is when you have a clock like the clocks under. One side is for the white player totap/press. The other side is for the black player.First the black player presses a button on the clock and the clock begins ,while the white playermakes his/her move. Then the white’s player is going to press on the button that’s closest tohim/her showing that it’s the black player's turn. They do this continuously unless someone hasno more time left and that’s how someone could also lose a game. And there is either the blitztype which is 3 mins +2secs or the 5 minutes one. There is also the rapid one which some are10mins or somewhere around it.Helpful Webs:Helpful webs can help you improve, know more about chess, play with others around the worldand etc…(Most are free.)Chess For KidsChess WebChess WebInternet chess clubHave Fun!!!To play these you will need to learn openings.
