Strategic Partners: The HIWPT Empowering Youth Newsletter for a Brighter Tomorrow... JULY 1, 2022 | Vol. 3 Issue 3 A quarterly publication of the Higher Institute for Water and Power Technologies

Message from the EMD Welcome to our third issue of the HIWPT's quarterly newsletter. As you may know, HIWPT is part of a nationwide network of TVTC regional training centers that help enhance the country's human capacity by passing on technical skills and best practices to younger generations. The current issue of the HIWPT newsletter looks back on recent events at the institution and looks ahead to upcom- ing activities. I cannot express my gratitude enough to my team, our sponsoring partners, and our board of directors for their unwavering support and guidance resulting in our con- tinued growth. I am quite grateful. We will continue to connect our partners and potential sponsors with the services they need, and we will deliver more professional, comprehensive, and responsible information on training resources and requirements to our trainees. With our commitment, we hope that you will carry on to stand with us as we devote all of our efforts to helping community youth in becoming economically self- sufficient, integrated, and productive citizens of our society. Engr. Tariq AlShamrani Executive Managing Director

EMPOWERING YOUTH FOR A BRIGHTER TOMORROW… PG. 8 Trainees participate in volleyball tourney A line of nets was set up inside at HIWPT on April ___, 2022 for a volleyball tournament for the trainees of the institute It was the first annual “Volleyball Event,” and it had teams of seventh and eighth grade students go up against each other in seven-minute games. The event was held after school, and NMS physical ed- ucation teacher Ken Kantor, who organized the event, explained the rules of the tourney while surrounded by the seventh and eighth grade participants. It cost $7 for each player on a team to participate in the fundraising event, and bags of chips and water were also sold during the event, for $1 and 50 cents, respec- tively. By Monday, Mr Kantor reported roughly $400 was raised from the tourney, with more money still being collected to be donated to the American Heart Associ- ation. According to Mr Kantor, 11 teams in total participated, with six teams of eighth graders and five teams of sev- enth graders taking part. He added the eighth grade winning team was called “The Whipsters,” and team members were Ardi Kodzodziku, Easton Ricks, Jimmy Davies, Thomas (T-Ush) Usher, Robbie Morrill, and Reed Hammond, while the seventh grade winning team, called “Knuckle Punch,” comprised Shilia Ray, Devin Johnson, Ryan Beadsley, Nihal Nawazz, John Godino and NMS seventh grade social studies teacher Tom DeBenedetto. Seventh grader Constantine Kyprianou acted as the DJ for the event, and Mr Kantor said, “He did a great job taking on requests for certain songs to be played dur- ing the tournament.” While walking the tournament field near the start of the event, NMS physical education teacher Michelle Fontaine said the students “are amazing in their sup- port for philanthropic endeavors like this.” Roughly 90 students participated in the tournament.
