Your path to becoming a skilled worker has begun The batch of young Saudis under the training sponsorship program of The Red Sea Development Company (TRSDC) in partnership with the Higher Institute for Water and Power Technologies (HIWPT) has started their registration and orientation activities on September 27-28, 2021 in Rabigh. A total of 140 out of 200 scholarship slots for trainees from the towns of the Red Sea and nearby regions are taking part in the 18 months training program set by the TRSDC and HIWPT to prepare them for the range of exciting jobs within the Red Sea development project. The training is being done through face-to-face sessions where the trainees can learn about technical works in mechanical, electrical, and renewable energy. The trainees will have to undergo an English course to improve their communication skills and later at the Red Sea project site for their on-job training (OJT) as a part of their complete learning process. This OJT practice would prepare them to develop skills, competencies and knowledge they need to carry out their role at TRSDC. Your dreams that were once far from your grasps almost seem attainable. Program A team from Taif University (TU) who won from the last year’s ‘The Power is Within You’ competition through the ACWA Power initiative in partnership with its training arm, the Higher Institute for Water and Power Technologies (HIWPT), has made a ground-breaking work to showcase a prototype solar panel cleaning machine using sensor and electrical mechanism. This is part of their winning project concept and incubation program that offers an effective solar panel cleaning system. The machine is equipped with scrub brush, wiper, and also sprinkles water stored in its tank. It travels smoothly and with ease across the entire panel through a powered motor. Likewise, it can be started manually by an operator, or through sensors fitted which measure the soiling of the panels. These sensors reduce the cost of unnecessary cleaning. The machine is designed to be robust and withstand extreme environmental conditions. Its maintenance is quite minimal and consumables such as brushes, wipers, and batteries can be replaced on the field with minimal effort and time after its prolonged use. In addition, the prototype of the machine was demonstrated recently at HIWPT Rabigh in the presence of trainees, staff, and instructors. According to Engr. Tariq Zia, HIWPT electrical instructor and advisor of the TU team, the device has been found to be a cost-saving and efficient solar panel cleaner and regarded as an achievement of the TU team and HIWPT in fulfillment of the ACWA Power initiative. Meanwhile, the second batch of the incubation program will be started soon and hopefully will be showcasing the same success story to benefits the community and to inspire potential young talents in the Kingdom.

Page 8 Newsletter Sponsors Workshop The skills required by today’s workers are different and more varied than they were even a decade ago, and future labor markets will demand a modernized and highly-skilled workforce with the ability to swiftly adapt to rapid changes. Meeting sponsors’ needs and expectations will require proper approaches and engagement, which is why the WFDP committee conducted a workshop on September 1, 2021 in Riyadh for sponsors and selected trainees to discuss the program’s progress and to step forward in the next phase of scalable employment solutions for the young generations. Several distinguished guests from public and private sectors were invited and participated to give supports on this worthy undertaking. Also, present at the occasion were delegations of ACWA Power led by Chairman Mohammad Abu Nayyan, and Obeikan company headed by Mohammed Obeikan.

Page 9 Newsletter Trainees Annual Event As part of the ongoing process to promote a sense of unity and camaraderie, to encourage competition and sportsmanship, and to boost the morale of WFDP trainees, an annual event was organized by the Higher Institute for Water and Power Technologies (HIWPT) on August 26, 2021, in Jeddah. The event was full of fun through team building games and sport water activities and was enjoyed by everyone. Present at the occasion also were teachers and staff who served as facilitators. The annual event was held successfully with proper Covid-19 precautionary measures by ensuring that all attendees were fully vaccinated against the virus. The WFDP initiative is a collaboration between ACWA Power and Obeikan companies. It is a reaffirming commitment of both parties to fast-tracking the localization of Saudi industry in lined with Vision 2030. The program aims to establish a highly self-reliant, efficient, and productive Saudi labor market targeting small-medium enterprises scaling up to the largest companies. Through WFDP, it prepares Saudi youth with the skills necessary for a specific type of job. It prioritizes the value of ongoing workplace education and skills development, as well as addresses the hiring demands of employers.
