This represented a drop of 605c, or a 35.3% reduction compared to the start of the selling season. With many Europe and US retail demand slump growers not willing to sell at current values we have seen a large volume of wool contributes to Australian wool price slide being held with the hope that prices will bounce back at some point. The largest issue facing the industry at the moment is the lack of retail activity in the US and The impact of coronavirus on the Australian wool Europe as those regions continue to battle the impacts of coronavirus. This was not limited to this area, with wools across Australia facing the same quality challenges. Many growers saw yields and strength down from their averages and any higher yielding, sound wools were well sought after in auctions. The start of the 2020/21 selling season will see two sales in the first two weeks of July and then a three-week selling recess which will allow the industry to take a breath and take stock. With a mixed start to the season I know everyone is looking to the skies to bring much needed rain to thicken up patchy germinated crops and pastures and to fill up some dams. Livestock July 2020 Update Well the 2020 year has been an interesting one so far, we have seen some pretty big highs and lows in the livestock sector. Both in the sheep and cattle markets with record prices been paid and record numbers of sheep heading east, due to the lack of rain for stock water and feed. The appetite from our eastern counterparts for sheep is still on going with sheep still heading east but in lesser numbers now than earlier on. I would just like to take this opportunity to acknowledge the Elders network throughout Australia and the setting up of our whatsapp App that we listed livestock on and shared within our Elders Network. This led to both the movement of sheep and cattle to NSW, VIC and SA with great success, with some sales only taking a few minutes of been loaded onto the whatsapp app to find a buyer and finalise a sale. On the sheep market, as we head into July we see a few of our processors shut their doors for yearly maintenance. WAMMCO, Fletchers Int as well as BRM will be shut until the first week of August or end of July when they look to recommence operating. The likes of V & V Walsh, Hillside, DBC, Avon Valley and some smaller processors remain open to supply our local markets and international ones as well. White Suffolk Cross Store Lambs that went over east The cattle market has been very buoyant with recent sales being very strong for all types. The processing market for cows came back up as well as heavy bulls due to rain in our pastoral region that has left a bit of a supply gap for the processors. Feed lotters are still looking for yearling cattle 320kg plus liveweight to feed with supply being tight and prices reflective of this. The southwest region of WA has had a magnificent start to the season with grazier restockers very active in the market trying to secure both steers and heifers to put in the paddock and trade out of later in the year. Again limited numbers have pushed prices right up with record prices been paid at the Elders Boyanup June special store, with our weekly Mount Barker Sales very well supported by buyers even though numbers have been limited on some categories of cattle.
