also a video game like Minecraft. I don't want to write about one part of Minecraft orTerraria. I want to write about the whole thing.Singers’ FeudBy KayleeTeam 20Lewis Elementary SchoolIntroduction I chose this question because many people have been feuding on who’s the bestsinger. I am giving them a choice out a few singers/bands to decide on by their opinion. Also, I want to know what their favorite singer/band is and why they like them. They alsohave the choice of choosing which of the eight singers/bands is their favorite and why. Iam also interested in how many people like the same singer as a different person by bothof their opinions. The purpose of my survey was to find out who was people’s favoritesinger.Procedure We started out by brainstorming questions that we would use for our survey. Webrainstormed ten questions that we could ask the public. When we got ten questions wechose three questions thatwe were most interested in.Next we started thirtyminute pitches where wehad four people discusswhy they like those threequestions. Last, wediscussed which one ofthose three questions wasour favorite. We wrote anintroduction accompaniedby three questions for oursurvey. What is your finalquestion? Who will benefitfrom your survey andfindings? Why are youinterested in this question? After that we created our survey by going to surveymonkey.com and logging inwith our Google account. First, we created an intro for the survey so people would getinterested into it. Next, we used a builder bar which had many different options likeMultiple choice, Dropdown, Matrix/Rating scale, single text box, and comment box.
Last, we chose small questions to go with our big question so we gave them an option tochose whether or not they would like to answer that question. I had five little questions togo with my one big question. When we collected data it was a little confusing, but we got through it because wehad to take each other’s survey. Next we went to surveymonkey.com to analyze ourresults and see what responses we got for each question. We used bar graph’s to analyzeour results. After that we split our screens into two and we pressed ctrl-c to copy from thesurvey’s results screen and ctrl-v to paste on the new Google document screen. When we started to analyze data we started out by reading through our results. Then we reread our results over and over. After that we took results and pasted them on anew Google docs tab. Next we read our results again and again. Last we took notes basedon what we got on our results like how many people responded and how many peoplegave helpful answers. We reflected on our survey by answering five questions. The questions were:What did you find out by doing your survey? How do the results compare with youroriginal prediction? what was similar? What was different? What surprises did you have? What problems did you have with collecting data? If you were to do this survey againwhat would you do? Last, we told others. Results Reading through my surveys project was strange because so many people had somany answers that were different from each other. I got twenty one responses on all myquestions. There were a lot of singers and barely any bands. It was strange to have twosingers tie which were Green Day and Bruno Mars. I don’t particularly like Bruno Mars, but I love Green Day. That is just my opinion. I was actually suprised Green Day wonbecause normally barely anyone listens to green day nowadays because they formed theirband in 1986. When I asked what people’s favorite singer was I mostly got ArianaGrande, Meghan Trainor, and Bruno Mars. The question that got nineteen responses was,“What would your life be like without music?” Some people said “bad” but one personsaid, “Terrible because it would be like life without color but instead music”. I had barely any problems. The one problem I had though was people were sayingthings like I don’t know, I don’t care, and who cares. These really just didn’t help me atall with this survey because what are you saying I don’t know or why are you saying Idon’t care or who cares. I needed some explanation in the reason.Interpreting Results How the results compare to my prediction is by how many people like this singer, that singer, or doesn’t like any singer at all by their opinion. People turn on music fortheir mood. For example for relaxation, angriness, sadness, happiness, andembarrassment. These are all part of songs back then and now. The part that was similarwas that singers all have emotion in their songs. The part that was different about mysurvey was because they had a lot of different singers. The surprises I had were ok because some kids put they didn't have a favorite
singer because they don't ever listen to the radio, listen to youtube music, or evendownload music because their parents tell them not to or they just don't like music. Whatalso surprised me was some kids had a lot of different tastes of music. It was music Ihave never heard before. If I were to do this survey again I would make it more clear that I want actualanswers and more details, because most people just wrote down one word. If I were to dothis survey again I would rearrange the answers like: How old are you? Out of these singers which is your favorite (If you don’t like these singers click none of the above)? Why is this singer your favorite? If you chose none of the above why do you not like those singers? Who is your favorite singer (optional)? Why is that your favorite singer? Who is your least favorite singer? Why is that singer your least favorite? What do think your life would have been like without music? Why do you think your life would be like that?So if I was to do this again I would put it in that set up.New Directions Some other surveys that could come off of this one are: What’s your favoritesong? Why is this your favorite song? Do you like this music or that music? What type ofmusic is your favorite? Would you rather listen to music while exercising or not? Thereason people should learn this is because they might find out they like different types ofmusic. They also might like different types of songs also. Last, they might like listeningto music while they exorcise.Pop Music!!!!KellenTeam 20Lewis Elementary SchoolIntroduction The reason I did this survey was to figure out just how popular the bands I hatetruly are. My other reason for doing this survey was because of all this popular musicthey play on the radio these days, as well as the fact that seeing different opinions makesfor very interesting thought (and knowledge). Therefore, the purpose of my survey was toget people thinking about music.
Procedure I started out with ten main questions of different types, such as “What famous oldtime horror authors do people like the most?” After that, I chose three questions, and Iconferenced K2K2K, (kid to kid to kid). in which. During this I had a thirty second pitchfor each of the three questions, then the two other kids give me feedback on each one,and they decided on which one was the best. We repeated for each kid. Then, we wrotean introduction with the questions “What is your final question?” “Who will benefit fromyour survey and findings?” “Why did you choose this question?” After I answered thosequestions, I made a prediction, and I created the survey using SurveyMonkey.com. Icreated the main question and some side questions using the builder menu inside thesurvey “design,” and I wrote an introduction to the survey. Once I published the survey, Ithen took a couple of hours a couple days later to take each classmates’ surveys. Afterthat, we started analyzing the data. I read it, read it again while taking small notes such as“76.00% hates the Dave Matthews Band.” I then copied and pasted the results into agoogle docs form and read it again, and highlighted important words and/or phrases. Some themes emerged. I then reflected on the five questions. “What did you find out bydoing your survey?” “How do the results compare with your original prediction?” “Whatsurprises did you have?” “What problems did you have with collecting data?” “If youwere to do this survey again, what would you do differently?” I then wrote anintroduction to my survey, as well as the procedure, results, interpreting results, and newdirections. I then made those into a rough draft, conferenced to ourselves, then K2K, andfinally K2T (kid to teacher). In each conference we deleted stuff that didn’t need to bethere, reworded sentences, and fixed grammar and/or spelling errors. I then put it into aarticle (a couple of paragraphs), and I published it in Neeble! Results Through doingmy survey, I found outjust how unpopularJustin Bieber really is.For my question “Who isyour least favoriteartist”, out of 25responses, and theoptions being, LadyGaga, Justin Bieber, FallOut Boy, One Direction,or other, (in which theywere supposed to writewhich artist) 75.00%said Justin Bieber (18people) while 20.83% answered other. Out of the five responses, only two were trulyhelpful. One of the two helpful responses says that they hate Iggy Azalea, while the other
said that they hate The Dave Matthews band. Nobody said that they hated Lady Gaga, butone (4.17%) person said they hate One Direction. For the why question that went with it, most of the answers for Justin Bieber areway too inappropriate to put on here, but of the appropriate responses, they said, He’sannoying, It isn’t good, It sucks, e.t.c. The one person who skipped the last question saidthat “they don’t listen to music,” and “Since I was little all I would listen to was rap.” Ialso asked people about their favorite songs, and why, and I got a lot of Uptown Funk, some Taylor Swift, and a couple of Meghan Trainor songs.Interpreting Results My original prediction was that half of the participants got their music from theradio, and that everybody would hate Justin bieber. For the Justin Bieber prediction, Iwas close. Out of 25 respondents, and the one person who skipped the question (soactually 24 responded) 18 people said that they hated Justin bieber, so I was off by about26%. As for my other question “How do you get your music?” everybody answered, and12 people said they get their music from the radio, which is 48.00% of the respondents, soabout half. And so, yet again, my prediction was almost 100.00% correct. I also had afew surprises, like when I saw that someone hated the Dave Matthews Band, and alsowhen I saw that someone hadrestrictions to music and couldonly get music from the radio.I was also very surprised whenI saw there were two peoplewho said that they likedMeghan Trainor. I wassurprised yet again, when Isaw that nobody answered thatthey hated Fall Out Boy. If Iwere to do the survey again, Iwould probably add somethingin the introduction like, pleasedo not answer “I don’t know”unless you really truly don’tknow (or something like that).New Directions I think a survey I could do based on this one could be something on classic rock, modern rock, metal, or even just Jethro Tull. Basically, I could do different genres, evensubgenres, and maybe even deeper than that, specific bands. I could also do unknownbands, popular rock bands, (such as Blue Oyster Cult) popular metal bands, etc.
After School RoutineBy PeytonTeam 20Lewis Elementary SchoolIntroduction This is an article about a survey I made called After School. My survey is aboutwhat kids from Team 20 do after school. I made the survey on Surveymonkey.com. Thisis an article about the information and the procedure on what we did to make our survey.I am interested by this question because I would like to know what Team 20 does afterschool and learn what some of their daily routines are. I think others should learn aboutmy findings because people should learn what children do after school to get them closerto their priorities. Also, it would benefit parents so they can change what their child'sroutine is so they can get their priorities done. The purpose of my survey is to learn whatthe kids in Team 20 do after school.Procedure To make our surveys, first we brainstormed ten ideas for a survey question. Nextwe looked through the questions ideas to find three of our best questions. We created 30second pitches for each question to share in a small group of four. In the small group weconferenced by sharing our three questions in 30 second pitches to get feedback and givefeedback to the others in the group. Next we chose one of our three questions to be our main question. Then weanswered four questions, What was your final question? Why are you interested in thisquestion? Why should others learn about your findings? and Who will benefit from yoursurvey and findings? The next thing we did was to make our survey. We went to Surveymonkey.com,and we used the build menu to create our surveys. We made an introduction, and addedmain questions and side questions. Then we collected data by taking other people’ssurveys and looking at the results for our survey. On Surveymonkey.com we looked atbar graphs and copied an pasted information to a google docs. Then we analyzed the results by reading, reading it again and taking small noteson our data, and then reading it again and highlighting important words or phrases andthemes emerged. When we finished analyzing the data we answered the five questions(1)What did you find out by doing your survey? (2) How do the results compare withyour original prediction? What was similar? What was different? (3) What surprises didyou have? (4) What problems did you have with collecting data? (5) If you were to dothis survey again, what would you do differently? Our last step was to tell others, when we create an article with an introduction, aprocedure, results, intercepting results, new directions, a title, then it will be published inNeeble!!
Results The percentage of thepeople who took my survey was91.3% from Team 20 and people8.7% that were not. For thequestion, “What do you do afterschool?” 39.13% put I do homework, 17.39% put I play sports,4.35% put I play on schoolgrounds, 0% put I play videogames. 4.35% put I go toY.M.C.A., 4.35% put I go tomusic class and 30.43% choseother. I think most people put i dohome work because home workmight be a big priority for themand they need to do it. Some problems I had whencollecting data was people did notanswer the questions in a full sentence. They just wrote something like “fun” or“because”. Another problem I had was two people went with a name that were not theirs.Interpreting Results My results weren't as close as I would like to my prediction. I thought that theywould be longer and have the question built in to them, and I thought more people wouldgive effort and time to my quiz and not be silly. The results I got had similarities like Ithought that people would tell me who they are and most did, except two people. Somesurprises that I had were people not answering their questions in a full answer like saying‘fun’ or ‘because’. Something else that surprised me was how little chose, I go to musicclass. I thought there would be more people in music class. Another surprise was howmany people chose other. One surprise I had when I looked over my survey was that some people chose tobe silly by listing a name that is not their own. I don’t understand why they go by otherpeople’s names. Do they think my survey is a joke? Some people didn’t write a fullanswer they just wrote ‘exercise is good’ or ‘cause I have to’ or ‘fun’. I don’t understandwhy, did they rush through it and not pay attention? If I were to take this quiz again I would be more precise like instead of ‘Explainwhy’ I would write ‘Explain why you do that in a full sentence.’ For ‘What is yourname?’ I should change it to ‘What is your given name?’
New Directions I would like to learn more about more routines that Team 20 does after schoolinstead of just one. For example, some things they do each day. I could learn more aboutwhy they do those things because they didn’t give a lot of detail, but they gave enough. Some questions I might include in the survey are what do you want to do after school? What is Your Favorite Sport?By MikeTeam 20Lewis Elementary SchoolIntroduction I am interested in my question “What is Your Favorite Sport?” because I likesports, and I would like to know what people thought about their athletic ability. I alsothink it would be really eye opening to think about the real likelihood of making it pro. Therefore, the purpose of my survey was to help kids better understand the probability ofgoing pro and to maybe help them decide what sport to play. I think my survey couldachieve these goals from the information that I will show.Procedure The first step to create my survey was to brainstorm questions. We thought of tengood questions and gave a pitch to the people we were kid to kid conferencing with. Theythought and asked questions about ideas to help us consider which question to choose. Then we wrote our introduction and answered questions like who will benefit from oursurveys and other questions along those lines. Next we created our suveys using surveymonkey.com and put in our mainquestions and our side questions. Another step we did was collecting data and that isbasically taking each others surveys. Along with collecting data from our surveys andanalyzing data in that we had to read our data then highlight the emerging themes. Then we reflected on five questions: What surprises did you have? What did youfind out by doing your survey? How do your results compare with your originalprediction? What surprises did you have? and What problems did you have withcollecting data? Finally we told others by writing this article. Results In my survey “What is your favorite sport?” I found many different results. Mostpeople enjoyed soccer and basketball, 33.3% to be precise, with five people for each.Baseball was next with 20.0%, three people, for their favorite sport. Some other answerswere sprinkled in like bicycling. For “How far would you like to go in your sport?” it wasmainly pro, at 47.62% (10 people). College and high school tied at 28.57% (6 people foreach) and then I’m not interested with continuing at 23.81% (5 people). For “How far do
you realistically think you could go?” it was mainly pro 27.78% (5 people}. High school, college and not interested with continuing in your sport were all tied at 22.22% (4 peoplefor each). I highlighted similarresponses and I colorcoordinated around themes forthe questions in which they hadto write. One question was, “Ifyou chose I do not want tocontinue with my sport, why?”I color coordinated it, likemany people said, “I don't playsports,” so I made thatturquoise. There were three ofthose. Also for “Why do youthink you could go that far insports?” I had some hopefulresponses, so I colorcoordinated that like this,“Because if you try you can getin the best teams, get invited toother games or teams and keepgoing.” I colored thosepositive responses in yellow. There was three of those.Interpreting Results In my survey, I was very surprised on how many people thought they couldrealistically make it to pro and college because no one will most likely make it pro in allof Lewis. For how far do you want to go I was thinking it would be that most peoplewanted to go pro and I was correct that people would most likely want to go pro. Mywhole survey was really close for all the answers, but there are definitely many differentperspectives. As I was thinking to myself and wondering what are the statistics of making it pro,I researched the question and found an article on the NCAA website data about thechances of making it to the pros. I found out that making it into the NBA from college isa 1.2% chance and 3.4% chance to go from high school to college. In other words, if 100high school students played basketball, only about three would be able to play in college. Then, from that group, if there were 100 college playe rs, only one would make it to theNBA. So that’s like one percent of three percent! This means that your odds are not veryhigh in making it pro in basketball, but it is not impossible. Women’s basketball is not awalk in the park at .09% chance to go from college to being drafted to the WNBA andthen a 3.8% chance from high school to college. One in 1000 college players can make it
into the WNBA. It is super hard and almost unreasonable to think to compete at a prolevel. Men’s baseball is a definitely easier to get into than women’s basketball; however, the odds of being drafted from college to the MLB is a 8.6% and a 6.9% chance fromhigh school to college. That is obviously better than most pro sports. Men’s soccer is inthe middle for the likelihoodof going pro. There is a 5.7%chance that high schoolplayers will play in collegeand a 1.2% chance for beingdrafted into the MLS fromcollege. There are also otherpro leagues people can playsoccer in. In conclusion, soccer is a decent sport to tryto go pro at. If I repeated my surveyI definitely would of had athing where people had tofinish all the questions to getdeeper, better results.New Directions I believe from reading the data in my survey that it would be helpful to repeat aquestion from my survey in a second survey. That question is, “How far do yourealistically think you could go?” I wonder with the data that I collected on the statisticsof making it pro, if it would change people’s minds or not about how realistic it would beto make it to college and the pros?ReferencesNCAA. Which Brand is Better, Nike or Adidas?By AustinTeam 20Lewis Elementary SchoolIntroduction The purpose of my survey was to help people decide on which shoe brand to buy.I chose this question because I was really wondering which brand is better, Nike orAdidas. What led to my survey was me asking Mike and Lawson (kids that are both inmy class) what brand really was better. One answered with Adidas and the other withNikes. So I was curious to see what other people think about which brand is better.Procedure The first thing that we did with the survey project was come up with 10 questionsto choose from. We kept three to choose from and got rid of the rest that we didn’t want.We went in a group of four and than we talked for 30 seconds about why we chose thequestion we did. Step two was writing an introduction. We wrote about why we chosethat question and who will benefit from your question. Our third step was creating oursurvey. We went on to SurveyMonkey.com and figured out our main question and sidequestions. Then we created our survey. Our fourth step was collecting data. We went tothe blog and answered each other’s questions. Then we went on SurveyMonkey.com andcollected the data that we got. Step four was analyzing data. We read through our results, and then read through it again but took notes this time. Then we reflected on the fivequestions. The five questions were hard because there was a lot to do. If I did the surveyagain I would probably choose a different question just because I didn't get a lot ofresponses. Results By doing mysurvey I found out whatpeople think about whichbrand is better Nike,Adidas or New Balance. Igot a total of 23responses from Team 20,mostly stating that Nikewas better. 56.52% ofpeople said Nike was thebest. There were also alarge amount of peoplewho said Saucony orToms was better from the
other category. Also, there were a couple people saying Asics or Brooks was better. Mynext question was “How do you decide on which brand to buy?” I also got a total of 23responses from Team 20. Most people said they would buy shoes if they were goodquality. There were also people who said they would buy shoes if they were a good price. My last and final question was Adults: What brand do you think is better? 40 percent ofpeople said Nike was better, 6.67 percent of people said Adidas was better, 6.67 percentof people said New Balance was better, and 46.67 percent of people said other was better.Interpreting Results My results were similar to what I predicted they were going to be. When I finishedmy survey, there were far more people who said Nike was better than Adidas or NewBalance. There were about 60 percent of people who said Nike was better, about fivepercent of people who said New Balance was better, and about 35 percent of people whosaid Adidas was better. A surprise that I had was not that many people chose Adidas. Ithought there would be more who said Adidas were better because Adidas is one of thetop sports shoe brands. If Iwere to do my survey againI would probably choose adifferent question like “Whydo you like that brand?” If Idid ask that question Iwould probably get moreresponses, and it would helpme out with the analyzingdata part. I would also helpme with my procedure partbecause it would make thesteps more clear.New Directions A question I could come off of this question that I did is “Which brand is betterAsics or Saucony?” I would ask this question because a lot of people said the Asics orSaucony was better instead of Nike or Adidas. So if I did take this question about shoesfarther, I would know which brand people think is better.
What Shoe Brand Do You Like Best Basedon Functionality?By LawsonTeam 20Lewis Elementary SchoolIntroduction I am a shoe fanatic. I go and buy shoes at a lot of different stores, and this is why Iam interested. I wonder what shoes people like, where do they get them, what they looklike, and are they comfortable? I am wondering what shoe brand do people like bestbased on functionality and why do they like them.Procedure The first step to my survey was to create ten questions. Then I got together withthree other people and we did thirty second pitches about our ideas. After that we choseour best, and we did a group conference and gave feedback to each other including whichwas the best. The next step was answering four questions: what is your final question, why are you answering this question and who will benefit for this question. Then our nextstep was to create the survey. We used something in survey monkey called builder and itlets us build the questions we wanted to ask. Then after we did our main questions wecould add questions onto the question. Then finally after we finished builder we got tomake a introduction to our survey. After that step we took each other surveys, looked atour results that we got, and then copy and pasted onto Google Docs. Then we looked atour graphs and added up our percentages. The next step that we are at is called reflect onfive questions, which are: What did you find out about you survey? How do the resultscompare to your original predictions? What surprises did you have? What problems didyou have with collecting data? and If you were to do this again what would you dodifferently? The final step istell others! What you have todo for this step is write asurvey article and things aboutwhat you did, what you likeetc. When you are done withthat you go to Neeble and thenyou write the article. Results What I found out aboutmy data was that 23 peopletook my survey. My firstquestion was, “What shoe
brand do you like best based on functionality?” 69.57 percent voted for Nike, Other wasat 17.39 percent, Converse was at 8.70 and Saucony was at 4.35 percent. My next question was, “Why?” People in my class said, “Because they arecomfortable,” “Because they make good shoes,” and “Because they are light anddurable.” along with other similar comments. My final question was, “What basketballshoe brand do you like best based on functionality?” Mostly everybody voted for Nike. Infact, 61.90 voted for Nike and only 19.05 voted for Adidas. Under Armor was at 4.76percent and other shoe brands combined were at 14.29 percent. I had some problems as I worked on my survey project. One problem was that Ihad a hard time workingwith the builder in SurveyMonkey. It was challengingto organize my questionsand I fell behind there.Highlighting my data as Ianalyzed it was challenging, too. I was trying to put it inorder and learned a lot aboutcut and paste in GoogleDocs. Five questions was alot to go through to drawconclusions. This made itdifficult to organize myresults section, but I stuckwith it.Interpreting Results For my question, “Which shoe brand do you like most based on functionality?”my prediction was pretty accurate. My percentages were not dead on though. I figuredthat Nike would get the biggest percent and Adidas would get second. One surprise that I had was that Nike beat Adidas 16-1 in people. I thought that itwould have been a lot closer. If I were to do this survey again, I would do a lot of things differently. I wouldorganize my questions in Survey Monkey more efficiently so I had more time to build theformat and questions. I think I would have an easier time highlighting my data in thefuture, because now I have done it once and I am more familiar with it. I would try toadd more detail to my results section.
New DirectionsA new survey that could come off of this one is about why people like Nikes more thanAdidas. My teacher wonders what people prefer to wear for different sports and why.Does an Animal Share a Personality with aHuman?By PhilipTeam 20Lewis Elementary SchoolIntroduction I wanted to learn if other kids think an animal shares a personality with a human. Ifound out that by looking on Wikipedia some information about this question. Why was Iinterested in this topic? Well, it was a good question to answer and I wondered if animalsdo share a personality with a human. In survey project, at the beginning, it took me sometime to do this question. Even the progress took a while to come up with this question. No one has ever answered this question that I know of, so that’s why I did. Therefore the purpose of my survey was to show if kids think their pet has apersonality with them. The data at the end was kind of half and half because of how manypeople chose yes and no. I also wanted to learn if dogs are as smart as a human orsomething like that.Procedure At the beginning of my survey, I started by brainstorming ten questions and tryingto think of what question I should do. Then I joined up in a small group for a conferenceand we gave each other feedback. After that we did 30 second pitches to talk about ourquestions like why did you choose that question, and what other things do you want tolearn about this question. Then I wrote an introduction and answered all four questions. After that I worked on answering questions like: What is your final question?, Why areyou interested in this question? and, Who will benefit from your survey and findings? I created my survey using surveymonkey.com. I used the builder menu to help medesign my survey. I put in the main question and side questions. Then I collected data andI took other kids’ surveys. After that I went to surveymonkey.com and looked at theresults on the bar graph. I copied and pasted the answers into a Google Doc. As I finishedup that I started to analyze my data. I read through my results and took small notes andread again and highlighted imported words and phrases and some themes emerged. Then I reflected of the five questions which were: What did you find out by doingyour survey?, How do the results compare with your original production?, What surprisesdid you have?, What problems did you have with collecting data?, and If you were to dothis survey again what would you do differently? Now it’s time to tell others! This step
