BCS STUDENT CODE OF CONDUCT • The Birmingham City Schools (BCS) Code of Student Conduct (CSC) supports our schools in maintaining safe, nurturing, par;cipatory, and produc;ve learning environments. In order to maximize learning ;me and promote posi;ve behaviors, every school must establish mul;-;ered systems of support for students’ social, emo;onal, and behavioral needs. This includes developing clear expecta;ons, teaching social-emo;onal competencies, and fostering posi;ve rela;onships among all members of the school community. BCS is commiDed to an instruc;ve, correc;ve, and restora;ve approach to behavior. If behavior incidents arise that threaten student safety or severely disrupt the educa;onal process, the response should minimize the impact of incident, repair harm, and address the underlying needs behind student behaviors. In accordance with the code of student conduct all disciplinary responses must be applied respecFully, fairly, consistently, and protect student’s rights to instruc;onal ;me whenever possible. The Code of Student Conduct is our guide to that purpose. The Code of Student Conduct: Describes the standards for posi;ve conduct; Explains the aDendance policy for students; Strives to standardize procedures schools use in responding to conduct problems; Assures the rights of students when disciplinary ac;on is taken; Specifies the rights and responsibili;es of students.
