THE LION IN LOVE 1

Old donkey lived in a snug, warm barn. He always had plenty of oats and hay to eat. The nurse told the child that if he cried loudly, he would throw it to the wolf.Now it chanced that a Wolf was passing close under the window as this was said. So he waited, and he waited, and he waited, till at last the child began to cry, and the Wolf came forward before the window, and looked up to the Nurse, wagging his tail. One hot summer’s day a fox was strolling through an orchard till he came to a bunch of Grapes just ripening on a vine which has been trained over a lofty branch. “Just the thing to quench my thirst,” he siad. วันหนึ่งในฤดูร้อนอันอบอ้าว หมาจิ้งจอกตัวหนึ่งกำลังเดินอยู่ ในสวนผลไม้ จนกระทั่งมาถึงพวงองุ่นพวกหนึ่งซึ่งเพิ่งสุก อยู่ บนเถาองุ่นซึ่งพันระโยงระยางอยู่บนกิ่งไม้สูง “ไอ้นี่แหละ มัน แก้คอแห้งได้” มันพูด 16

Drawing back a few paces, he took a run and a jump, and just missed the bunch. Turning round again with a One, Two, Three, he jumped up, but with no greater success. มันก็ถอยหลังไปสองสามก้าว ออกวิ่งแล้วกระโดดขึ้น ไป, แต่มันพลาดพวงองุ่นไปนิดเดียว มันหมุนวนกลับ อีกครั้ง พร้อมกับพูด 1 2 3 !! แล้วก็กระโดดขึ้นไป แต่ก็ ไม่ได้ผลดีไปกว่าเดิม 17

One morning, Jack’s mother told Jack to take their cow to market and sell her. On the way, Jack met a man. He gave Jack some magic beans for the cow. Jack took the beans and went back home. When Jack’s mother saw the beans she was very angry. The next morning, Jack looked out of the window. There was a giant beanstalk. He went outside and started to climb the beanstalk. He climbed up to the sky through the clouds. เช้าต่อมา แจ๊คมองออกทางหน้าต่าง มีต้นถั่วขนาดใหญ่หนึ่งต้น เขาออกมาข้างนอก และเริ่มปีนต้นถั่ว เขาปีนขึ้นบนฟ้า ผ่านก้อนเมฆ 22

Jack saw a beautiful castle. He went inside. Jack heard a voice. “Fee, Fi, Fo, Fum!” Jack ran into a cupboard. แจ็คมองเห็นปราสาทแสนสวย เขาเข้าไปข้างใน แจ็คได้ยินเสียง “ฟี ไฟ โฟ ฟัม” แจ็คจึงวิ่งเข้าไปในตู้ 23

An enormous giant came into the room and sat down.On the table there was a hen and a golden harp.“Lay!” said the giant.The hen laid an egg. It was made of gold“Sing!” said the giant.The harp began to sing. ยักษ์ใหญ่ตนหนึ่ง เข้ามาในห้องและนั่งลง บนโต๊ะมีแม่ไก่หนึ่งตัว และพิณทองหนึ่งตัว เมื่อยักษ์พูดว่า “ออกไข่” แม่ไก่จะออกไข่ เป็นไข่ทองคำ เมื่อยักษ์พูดว่า“บรรเลง” พิณจะเริ่มบรรเลงเพลง Soon the giant was asleep.Jack jumped out of the cupboard.He took the hen and the harp.Suddenly, the harp sang, “Help, master!”The giant woke up, and shouted, “Fee, Fi, Fo, Fum!” ไม่นานต่อมา ยักษ์นอนหลับแจ๊คจึงโขมยหยิบเอาแม่ไก่และพิณและหนีกลับลงมา 24
