I Am Here Ambassadors Guide 01 At some stage in our lives, we, or someone close to us, will experience a mental health or wellbeing challenge. As an I Am Here Ambassador, you have the courage, confidence, and skills to act as a signpost to connect people with the help and support they may need when these challenges arise. A Ambassadors are courageous, confident, and CLEAR. You have Compassion, you Listen carefully, you show Empathy, you demonstrate Acceptance, and you are Real.
I Am Here Ambassadors Guide Your role as an Ambassador is to Show you care, 02 Ask the question, and Call for help. That’s it! Show you care To Show you care is to build trust and set up the context to Ask the question. Tune in using your head, heart, and gut feelings, together with identified warning signs, to determine the right time and approach to Show you care to someone. Barriers can cause you to miss or dodge opportunities to guide a person to help and support. Stay alert for internal, external, or environmental barriers and work to overcome them. Simply being there and listening is often the most powerful way to Show you care. Ask the To Ask the question is to test your assumption that the person is not question feeling ok and to determine whether you need to Call for help or not. As an Ambassador, you are not the help. Your role is simply to connect a person with the help or support that will assist them to move forward. There is a wide range of help and support available in the six main areas: emotional wellbeing, physical health, spiritual wellbeing, social wellbeing, financial wellbeing, and work and career. You cannot know how another person will react to the offer of help or support or if they will take it. Demonstrate complete acceptance regardless of the outcome. Call for To Call for help is to connect the person with the help or help support they may need. That’s it. Before you Ask the question, ensure you have the time, check that the situation and context are appropriate, and confirm you have privacy. Be CLEAR in your questions without making a diagnosis, sharing your own experiences, or comparing a person’s situation to someone else’s challenge. Respect and accept that a person might not be ready to open up, or you may not be the right person to guide them—and that’s absolutely ok! If you believe there is an imminent risk that the person will be a danger to themselves or others, you must call for emergency help or support. Do not leave the person on their own, and do not delay taking action.
I Am Here Ambassadors Guide 03 Your mental health and wellbeing is as important as anyone else’s. Perform a self-check to ensure you are ready, willing, and able to assist others before opting in for the day. And remember, as an Ambassador you too have access to help and support. This help and support may be internal or external to the organization, and is available under the following six pillars: Stay connected to the Tribe by following us on social media: It’s ok not to feel ok; and it’s absolutely ok to ask for help.
