BRAZIL 9 By Marcelo Brandāo - Journalist THE VACCINE HASN’T ARRIVED YET, BUT IS ALREADY CONTROVERSIAL In Brazil, after months of darkness, the COVID-19 clouds have started to dispel, even if very slowly. But as nothing in Brazil seems to come easy to anyone, another obstacle has arrived for a definite way out of the pandemic: the president Jair Bolsonaro,has decided to do nothing to vaccinate the population. Among the vaccine’s trials in Brazil, there’s one that is being produced by Chinese scientists in a partnership with the Instituto Butantã by São Paulo’s government. Bolsonaro embraces the ideological speech of his hero, Donald Trump, while stating that the Brazilian government won’t buy what he called “the Chinese vaccine”. He stated this after his Health Minister announced that the government was going to buy 46 million doses of the vaccine. To support his decision, the Brazilian president claimed that the vaccine doesn’t have any scientific evidence, although available information indicates that it is only a matter of time until the vaccine reaches the necessary standards. It’s worth mentioning that Bolsonaro has never needed any scientific evidence to encourage the use of chloroquine as a solution to treat coronavirus and spend public money to produce it. The government of São Paulo, which participated in the development of the vaccine, under the command of João Dória, whom Bolsonaro doesn’t like. Foi pensando nisso que a nossa editora-chefe, Isa Melo, resolveu criar o COMVIDA-19, uma campanha voltada para espalhar amor, paz e fé, com o objetivo de tocar os corações das pessoas. São cinco vídeos com a participação de 47 crianças entre 2 e 13 anos, de nacionalidades variadas e residentes no Canadá e no Brasil. O COMVIDA-19 vai ser lançado em breve nas redes sociais da revista etc&tal. A apresentação foi feita por Jeovanna, essa pequenina e linda brasileira de apenas 9 anos, da cidade de Altamira no Pará. Ela é apaixonada pela natureza, gosta de estudar e, além de inteligente, é super precoce. Foi fácil para ela dar conta do recado e, merecidamente, ela é destaque da nossa capa esse mês. “Amei participar da revista e do vídeo”, disse Jeovanna. It is with this in mind that our editor-in-chief, Isa Melo, decided to create COMVIDA-19, a campaign aimed at spreading love, peace and faith, with the aim of touching people’s hearts.
