He put the cash on the counter. The bartender turned around with a smile but almost flinchedwhen he saw the money. “That won't get you too far here.” “You don't accept cash?” he asked incredulously. “We find cash to be … dirty.” He pulls a platinum card from the pocket of his suit jacket. “How about this?” The bartender dipped his head in approval and slid the card from the counter. He lookedaround and clearly there was nothing resembling a cash register. It was an all credit, all digitalbusiness. “I haven't seen you here before.” “I haven't been here before.” “Who invited you?” “I invited myself.” “Well, surely, you must know someone here.” He spotted her right then. The beautiful woman had just stepped through the entrance in anamazing dress that put all the best parts of her on display. The neckline of her dress dippedalmost as far as he wanted it to, the hem was nearly as high. Her legs were like fine art--he didn'tunderstand it but he could have watched them all day. The guy seemed to notice the trajectory of his gaze. He turned to face the bar. “Yeah, oh yeah,” he said. “A very old friend.” He realized that the guy was not only being nosy, he was scoping him out. He had to knowsomeone to be there. “This is kind of a closed community,” he asked as a statement. “Very exclusive,” the guy said. He grinned. “I like exclusive.” The guy sipped his drink. “I'm sure you do but probably only when you aren't excluded.” The two men looked seriously at one another. “And what does membership cost?” he asked, barely staving off aggression. The guy eyed the glass in his hand and nodded his head. “Now you are speakingintelligibly.” The two of them smiled. The guy took a card out of his pocket, not unlike the way that hehad removed the platinum card earlier, except that the guy handed him a business card. Notsurprisingly, it was blank on one side. On the other side was a printed figure. Fifteen milliondollars. He looked from the card to the guy. It was a joke. He tossed the card down on the counter. The bartender scooped the business card up and replaced it with his platinum card. He grabbed it. “That's a little steep. I could do better buying membership into Congress.” “You probably could,” the guy agreed. “Your money is yours. We don't require any payment. We just require that you prove your assets, and by assets, I mean money in the bank.” He took his drink from the counter and tossed it back. “I'm good for it,” he said. “Good. I'll let you know how our confirmation process works. Find me before you leave.” He sighed. “I wasn't planning to leave alone.” The guy's look showed disinterest. “She'll wait.”»»Do you like this beginning?
