NativismMany Americans (who were Irish andGerman descendants). They were notaccepting of the immigrants. Theythought they were disgusting, poor,people. They also did not accept theirreligion. This led to people joining theAmerican Protective Association lobbyto set restrictions on immigration.
Skyscrapers and public transportationSkyscrapers helped save space. Publictransportation helped people get to workfaster. Help people have more jobopportunities. Both of these things helplead to industrialization.
Tenement housingTenements are houses built to helphouse the waves of immigrants. Theseare good examples of urban workingclass housing. These were five to sixstories high and had up to fourapartments on each floor.
Problems due to urbanizationThere are tons of problems due tourbanization. Some being lack of jobs.Everyone came all at once leaving verylittle jobs available. Air pollution, due totons of factories being open this led topollution. Disease, people were notaware of cleaning or hygiene at all.Crime, due to being over populatedthere was a lot of crimes on the streets.
Tammany hallThe Tammany hall was aorganization that helpedimmigrants.
Social darwinismThe practice of misapplying thebiological evolutionary language ofCharles Darwin to politics, economy,and society.
Gospel of wealthThe gospel of wealth claimed thatmen who were wealthy had apurpose other than being wealthy.As in donating their money tocharity.
