THE HISTORY OF SANTHOME CHURCH “This is the day that the LORD has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it.” - Psalms 118:24 As the scripture says, God has made the day for Santhome Parish to rejoice and thank Him, as we celebrate its quadranscentennial. Our Santhome Parish started with humble beginnings in 1998, as ‘Santhome Study House’, in Hulimavu. This was a Major Seminary of the Mananthavady Diocese founded in 1983, under the guidance of the great visionary Mar Jacob Thoomkuzhy. The seminary started accommodating the Malayalee Catholic families, staying in the vicinity, for Holy Mass regularly. As the number of faithful increased, so did the need for a Parish Church, to cater to their spiritual growth, became inevitable. Rev. Fr. Francis Karippukattil, the then Rector, took the initiative to forming a parish in 1997, with the support of Late Mar Emmanuel Pothanamuzhi. The Study House was elevated as an independent Mass Centre, on 5th January 1998, and to a full-fledged parish, on 1st July, by His Grace Alphonse Mathias, Archbishop of Bangalore Archdiocese. Fr. Francis Karippukattil, was appointed as the

first parish Vicar. Rev. Fr. Kuriakose Kumbakeel, Rev. Fr. Paul Koottala and Rev. Fr. Sebastian Keezheth followed in line, all of whom continued to maintain the charism of the parish. All throughout, the community had also been grateful to experience the pivotal roles played by the SCV sisters of Marillac Home, be it from the growth of the Parish since its inception, to the spiritual formation of all the parishioners. The construction of the new church began in 2011, under the guidance and pastoral care of Rev. Fr. Saji Pariyappanal. The foundation stone was laid by Most Rev. Mar George Njaralakkatt, the then Bishop of Mandya, and the construction commenced on 6th January 2012. We thankfully remember Mananthavady Diocese and Mar Jose Porunnedom for donating land to the Church. With the wholehearted support and cooperation of the parishioners, all well-wishers, and above all with the immense blessings of the Almighty, his Beatitude Mar George Alencherry, Major Archbishop of Syro-Malabar Church, consecrated the Church on 16th February, 2014. As the Eparchy of Mandya is extended to Bangalore in 2015, Santhome Parish became a part of it, and subsequently elevated as the Regional Pastoral Centre of the diocese by Mar Antony Kariyil.In 2015, Santhome Parish became a part of the extended Mandya Diocese. Subsequently, Most Rev. Mar Antony Kariyil elevated it as the Regional Pastoral Centre of the Diocese.

Rev. Fr. Manoj Ambalathinkal was appointed as the 6th Vicar of the parish, on 21st May 2017, and went on to serve for five years. In May, 2022, Rev. Fr. Thomas Kattuthuruthiyil took charge to shepherd the Santhome flock. Under his charismatic leadership, the guidance of His Excellency Mar Sebastian Adayanthrath, and the support of our dear Assistant Vicar, Fr Jinto Mathew, the holistic development of the Parish continues… Standing at the threshold of a Silver Jubilee Year with more than 350 families, let us “Rejoice in the Lord always; again I will say, Rejoice.” Philippians 04:04 Santhome Study House
