Significant changes to the state structure due to the emergence of the Coronavirus pandemic (Covid-19) have had a huge effect on the habits and behavior of the country. The existence of this pandemic affects many aspects of human life, such as the economy, health, tourism, and education. This has a major impact on the education system, causing the government is turning all face-to-face learning in class into online learning from home. It has been more than a year that the learning system in Indonesia and even around the world has turned into an online learning system. The application of this policy is something new to the world of education, so that it requires a lot of adjustments from various parties, both educators and students. Adaptations that have not been maximized causes some difficulties faced by students while learning online during the Covid 19 pandemic, so this book will discuss the online learning difficulties during the Covid 19 pandemic, including less supportive signal, some students lacked internet quotas, there are distractions when studying at home, and the material presented is difficult to understand.
First of all, the signal is less supportive. This is because in several regions in Indonesia is very difficult to get signal access. Besides that, there are differences in signal strength in several regions ( Hutauruk & Sidabutar, 2020). The internet signal is still uneven in all corners of the country. If signal available, the condition of the internet signal is still unable to cover online learning. Internet signals that are not supportive cause students to have difficulty accessing learning materials. Students also have difficulty participating in video conferencing activities. This difficulties make them unable to follow online learning properly, study learning materials, submit assignments on time and discuss with friends. Thus, this will affect their grades.
Second, some students lacked internet quotas. Middle and lower economic class students have economic limitations to buy internet quotas because the amount of internet quota needed for online learning is very large, this requires a large cost to buy the internet quota. Moreover, if the learning is done via video conference, it will consume a very large internet quota, which is around 540MB for 1 hour, (Handarini, 2020). Lack of internet quota owned by students makes them unable to access learning materials provided by lecturers, unable to do and collect assignments, and unable to take part in learning via video conferences. This will make students do not understand the learning material, that way, students will have difficulty facing exams and get bad grades, which affect their average score or GPA.
Third, there are distractions when studying at home. During online learning at home, other activities distract students. The distractions can be like merchants screaming and passing in front of the house, noise due to passing vehicles for students who live on the side of the highway, the voice of a younger sibling crying, the voice of a sibling arguing, a loud television sound, and the sound of music tuned loudly by neighbors. According Dalimunthe & Ratna Sari (2020), this disturbance will certainly distract students' focus in the learning process, for example when following lessons from a video conference, the teacher's voice will not be heard clearly. So that when the teacher gives questions to students, the student cannot answer them well because they do not understand the learning that is being discussed.
Finally, the material presented is difficult to understand. According Taradisa, Jarmita, & Emalfida (2020), the absence of direct interaction from lecturers or other students to discuss the material presented makes it difficult for students to understand learning. Asking through other media has not been fully effective for some students because students feel embarrassed, afraid, or have difficulty understanding the explanation given by the teacher. Some students asked questions through other online media but still don't understand the explanation that is being given. Lack of understanding of the material being studied will be bad for students. students will make their conclusions on things that are not clearly understood. This causes students to have wrong understanding and will have an impact on the future
Those are the four difficulties of learning online during the Covid 19 Pandemic that can disrupt the online learning process. Of course, this difficulties will continue to exist until we can adapt and be able to handle it properly. Ways that can be done to overcome the above difficulties such as finding a place that has good signal access, the campus or the government provides quota assistance for students who have economic limitations, looking for a quiet place and avoiding things that can interfere, and seeking discussion of material from other sources or ask seniors about subject that were difficult to understand
