Dictators for dummies By: Johnny Hartman

So, you want to be a dictator? A dictator is a single leader in a government and has complete control of everyone in their country. To be a dictator you must gain power by censoring the media, making deadly threats. To maintain power, you have to be violent, and scary towards the people so they don't try to overthrow you. One historical example of this was Adolf Hitler. He told kids to snitch on their own parents if they did not support nazi beliefs. Adolf used fear by killing millions of jews. A modern day example of this would be Kim Jong Un, he went as far as killing his uncle, and he does not allow the people of north korea to have access to the internet.

Tips & tricks to getting your power To gain power, dictators would change laws and get rid of political parties to make it easier for them to gain power, they also promised to do great things for their country. One historic example is Adolf Hitler, he promised to fix the economy quickly as possible during the great depression. One modern example is Kim Jong Un, he promised to be like his grandfather and be good to the people.

How to keep your power: Step 1 Dictators censor media to maintain power, this is so that the people think that the dictators are good. One historic example is Joseph Stalin, he would edit people out of photos and put up pictures of himself at children's playgrounds. A modern example is Kim Jong Un, he does not allow his people to access the internet.

How to keep your power: Step 2 Dictators brainwash their people to make them think that they are the best leaders in the world. One historic example of this is Joseph Stalin, he put up pictures of himself in playgrounds. One modern example of this is kim jong un, he has teachers teach kids about how great he is.

How to keep your power: Step 3 Dictators would repress opposition to keep power. They do this by punishing or killing anyone that opposes their beliefs. One historic example of this is Adolf Hitler, he would make teachers to tell on their parents if they did not support nazi beliefs. One modern example of this is vladimir putin, he swiftly and brutally kills people who oppose his beliefs.

How to keep your power: Step 4 Another way dictators keep their power is by imprisoning or torturing their enemies. One historic answer of this was joseph stalin, he caused “The Great Purge” and killed his opponents due to his paranoia. One modern example of this is Kim jong-un, he imprisons most of the americans that come to north korea.

How to keep your power: Step 5 Dictators use military and police force to keep their power, one historic example of this is Mussolini, he had a police force called the black shirts which controlled opposition. One modern example of this is Xi Jinping, he has a ministry of state security.

How to keep your power: Step 6 Dictators use propaganda to convince people that they are the best leaders. One historic example of this is joseph stalin, he had pictures of himself at children's playgrounds. One modern example of this is vladimir putin. Putin’s repeated claim that Ukrainians and Russians are “one people” left no room for a Ukrainian identity other than that of “little Russians” in his Eurasian Union.

How to keep your power: Step 7 Modern dictators like Kim jong-un do not allow their people to access social medias because the people will see how bad their leaders really are.

How to keep your power: Step 8 Dictators show aggression towards other countries/groups of people to threaten them, one historic example of this is when Hitler caused the holocaust, he killed roughly 6,000,000 jews. One modern example of this is kim jong un, he threatens america with nukes.

How to keep your power: Step 9 Lastly dictators manipulate laws to ensure that they will not be overthrown. One historic example of this is mussolini, he tried to make a roman empire, one modern example of this is kim jong un, he illegalized social media.
