Collectivism Collectivism is an ideology that focuses on the group of people rather than the individual alone. Its ideas build on cooperation, economic equality, norms, interest, responsibility, and public property. Collectivism is the opposite of Individualism as individualism looks at the needs for survival only for themselves while collectivism looks at the needs for survival as a group. Its goal is to prioritize the group first rather than the individual and that individuals depend on one another.
Communism/Marxism Karl Marx the originator of marxism founded it in the 1800’s. He believed in collectivism and where people would live in a classless society. Everyone in the society would work for common goods and class struggle would theoretically be gone. Communism thrives on making everyone equal and making society a classless society, citizens in the society do not have a voice in government. All property is publicly owned and each person who works is paid by their abilities and needs
Communist Leader Joseph Stalin was the communist leader of russia in 1922. Stalin after becoming into power quickly got rid of any opposition as he was worried he would become overthrown, but this led to the country into becoming a dictatorship. Stalin was heavily on the idea of industrialization and strictly ruled over everything to make the fastest way to improve their industries. Stalin controlled media and put fear into citizens, since anyone who spoke out or challenged the government would be severely punished. Many people died to the struggle of food and also the killings of people who didn't follow rules.
Current Communist Leaders Communist parties today such as Cuba have had benefits from allowing communism to exist such as having an equitable distribution of adequate housing, good health care, education, as well as national income. Cuba is in poverty as a lot of the citizens not making much of a salary. Many citizens of cuba are forced to live this way since there isn't freedom of speech and many citizens et arrested for trying to speak out.
Socialism Utopian Socialism is an ideology that was based on the belief that social ownership of the means of production can be achieved through peaceful and voluntary surrender of their holdings by propertied owners. Karl Marx critiqued the idea of a Utopian society, One of his difficulties in understanding was is that a utopian society does not form a natural class.
Democratic Socialism Democratic socialism has similar values to socialism, but within a capitalist framework. This ideology people have a say in government actions, competition is within a democatic society as it helps with people whose jobs don’t pay as well as others. There are many democratic societies today such as Brazil, Italy, Turkey, France, etc. This ideology provides people with a voice and a sense of freedom. This ideology creates a more effective economy as it creates an income equality, also creates room for more value judgements. Sergio Mattarella -President of Italy
Liberalism Liberalism is the opposite of socialism, it is based on the values of individualism and having competition, rule of law, self interest, private property, and economic freedom. Modern Liberalism in the United States combines civil rights and equality with hopes for social justice and a mixed economy. Modern liberalism exists today in United States, Canada. In Canada everyone is free and has a voice. People can buy and sell as they wish and also participate freely in the economy. Justin Trudeau -Prime Minister of Canada
Individualism Individualism is an ideology that is based on the fact that people should focus on themselves before they focus on a collective group. Conservatism Conservatism in an ideology that is based on traditions as it works well for the society and that not much change should occur. Conservatism believes that society is good the way it is and if changes were to occur it should be gradually and not a big change
Conservatism in Canada Conservatism in Canada is a modern-day conservatives party, by various centre-wing and right-wing parties. They want limited government, low tax, low spending, and a balanced budget. The low taxes will provide people with more jobs and wealth for everyone. Fascism Fascism is a system of government that is on the very right side of the spectrum and is run by a dictator who typically rules by forcefully and most often violently suppressing opposition so the leader doesn't have a chance of being overthrown. Dictatorships often lead to controlling of all media and industry, promoting their ideas and often times even racism How it evolved - When Hitler became the leader of Germany he quickly got rid of any opposition that could jeopardize his ruling which quickly turned the country into a dictatorship. Hitler used propaganda to his advantage to promote his ideas and brainwash many germans into believing jews were a menace to society and should be eradicated. Anyone who failed to follow his rules were punished
