ADAPTATIONS IN PLANTS AND ANIMALS CLICK

Adaptation can be defined as any heritable trait that helps an organism, such as a plant or animal, survive and reproduce in its environment. A change in structure, function, or behavior by which a species or individual improves its chance of survival in a specific environment is called adaptation. The Natural surroundings where an organism live is called a habitat.Habitat provides all things necessary for surviving which are food, shelter and proper climate conditions.

Adaptations in Plants : Based on the amount of water present in the habitat, plants are divided into 3 categories : ❏ Hydrophats (aquatic plants) - live in water Example = Hydrilla ❏ Mesophytes - that require a sufficient amount of water to live on land Example = Herbs ❏ Xerophytes - live in hot and dry land Example = Cacti

❏ Mountainous Plants - live in mountains Example = Spruce ❏ Aerial Plants - plants that do not have underground root systems; instead, they are located in areas above the ground Example = Orchids P.T.O
