FOREWORDThis third edition of RAC80 is published against a background of significantchange within the building services sector. Of particular note are the revisions ofbuilding Regulations and the Fluorinated greenhouse gas emissions regulation (FGas Regulation). Also the Energy Performance of Buildings Directive which seeksto regulate energy consumption.Much effort has been made and indeed continues to be made to raise levels ofcompetence, productivity and performance in the refrigeration, air conditioningand heat pump sector. To support this, BESA has undertaken to provide a numberof measures designed to demonstrate and achieve positive differentiation of theirmembers. One such measure has been the comprehensive revision of the secondedition of RAC80. This document has changed to a Design Specification for theapplication of DX packaged air conditioning & heat pump systems. It is hoped thatbuilding services system designers will benefit from the information containedwithin these pages. During the review and drafting process considerableconsultation was undertaken across the industry to ensure that this document fullyreflects industry specification and best practice.I believe this Specification will serve as a recognised benchmark for the airconditioning sector and for BESA members in particular. I would like to thankall those who have contributed to its production and specifically the RACHPSpecialist Group Committee and Graeme Fox at BESA for their efforts, knowledgeand experience.Andy BrewerChairman of the BESA Refrigeration,Air Conditioning & Heat Pump GroupThe Building Engineering Services Association Design Specification for the application of DX Air Conditioning & Heat Pump Equipment 5
