Landry’s Seafood on the Kemah Pier
Sugar Bean Coffee Shop
These rentals are usually around $1500 to Pirate’s Beach $1750 for a weekend (Fri PM - Sun AM). Pirate’s Beach has a great community if you’re looking to rent a beach house. There are tons of sites to rent them for a week or so. This particular trip was for a leadership retreat with coworkers. For something like this, you really want to pay attention to beds versus how many it sleeps. I ended up sleeping on a super comfy couch because there were lots of bunk beds and with multiple women over 50, there was no way we were going to use ladders to climb into bed. The couch was much easier than climbing up to the ceiling. Now, if renting for a big family reunion or something, bunk beds might be a bit more fun, especially with kids. It’s such a great location, just a short 2 minutes walk to the beach with 24 hour access!
Willie G’s Seafood & Steaks Willie G’s is on the waterfront of the cruise terminal bay near The Strand. It’s a part of the Landry’s family and had a very upscale feel. The night we were dining we saw lots of teens in their prom clothing, and lots of couples celebrating anniversaries and birthdays. The service was a bit slow but very friendly. The food tasted amazing. I really enjoyed my shrimp enchiladas with crab meat. I had a lobster bisque appetizer that was delicious as was my mojito. They also have outdoor patio Shrimp Enchiladas w/ Crab $23 dining right on the water. This can be quite fun when the temperature is just right or during a busy day on the bay. For locals, I also recommend the Landry’s Select Club. It’s a $25 one-time fee but you get that back each year on your birthday plus other perks. Many places on the island to use the card!
Landry’s Seafood Landry’s is a mid-upscale seafood restaurant with a few different locations around the Houston area. I’ve included pictures from the Kemah location that I visited during a business trip. Because Kemah is fairly empty during the week, it’s a fun time to sit outside and enjoy cocktails after a long day. Be sure to try the New Orleans Crawfish Bread appetizer! Also, the jalapeno margarita and the Moscow mule were very tasty and highly recommended. Also, they have a great Thanksgiving Buffet availble that my family enjoys.
Sugar Bean Coffee Shop Years ago I was in Galveston on a business trip and was tired of hanging out in the hotel room. I wanted some fresh air and a place I could work on my laptop or read my latest book. I searched for local coffee shops and found this treasure. It’s on the corner of a small community strip inside a golf course neighborhood. They have different coffee and espresso drinks and the BEST outdoor patio with a view of a manmade lake and a gentle breeze. The patio is pet-friendly, too!

Rainforest Cafe Rainforest Cafe is a must visit if you’re on vacation with kiddos. I mean, you get to eat INSIDE a man made rainforest surrounded by your favorite animals. Outside is just as much a treat with an erupting volcano. The heat you feel from the plaza is incredible. They also have a fun gift shop and a Build-a-Bear partnership if you’re looking for a stuffed friend souvenir. Lastly, when dining, save room for dessert. Their brownie sundae, known as the Sparkling Volcano, comes with a lit sparkler! ($15.99)

Galveston Island State Park I went hiking at Galveston Island State Park with a local hiking group. It was a great walk on very flat land but the sounds are particularly fun when here. You’ll grab a day pass at the station on the South side of the park. Then, you’ll cross the busy street to get to all the trails. The hiking trails were very distinct but they were a bit wet and muddy. Make sure to wear shoes that handle water well. It’s very accessible for plus size travelers and/or other novice hikers. They had some night lookouts where you can see far across the marshy lands. Yes, the backdrop is vacation homes, but it’s still a nice atmosphere. This area also had a bunch of fisherman and crab hunters. It was fun to see a few of the crabs out and about on the trails too.
Pets on a leash are welcome at Galveston State Park! Pet Tips: After exploring the ● Bring lots of water. It’s a warm climate. trails, make sure to During the summer, you’ll want to do any go to the South side hiking early with your pet. By 9AM Ellie was of the park and hit warm.
