Sequencial Recut: Final Project for Time Examining the Riot Grrrl Movement An Artistic Short Film



History: Riot Grrrl was a punk feminist movement in the 90s that was deemed “violent” and “aggressive” because of its lack of filter when talking about issues of sexism, harrass- ment, and societal norms that women face. It orginiated from the Pacific Northwest and quickly spread across the US because of the traction the bands recived from a sup- portive audience of young females. Punk bands like Bikini Kill, Hole, and Bratmobile, were all at the forefront of this movement because of their raw lyrics that protested against the patriarchy.

Pitch: I want to create a short film that embodies the emotions that women were feeling at a time where their bodies were viewed as objects and political playgrounds, which still heavily relates to today’s time. I want to use this film to empower young women to be t hemselves to the fullest extent, just like the Riot Grrrl movement did for women in the 1990s. The following pages are inspiration/my storyboarding for the film.
