Netball is a ball sport played by two teams of seven players. Netball is most popular in many Commonwealth nations, specifically in schools, and is predominantly played by women. Netball is played by more than 20 million people in more than 80 countries. Games are played on a rectangular court with raised goal rings at each end. Netball began in England in the 1890s. From 1960s, the rules of international games were standardized and the International Federation of Netball was created. The objective of a game is to score more goals than the opposition. Goals are scored when a team member positioned in the attacking shooting circle shoots the ball through the goal ring. Unlike basketball, the posts do not have a vertical backboard on which the ball can bounce. Netball has been adapted in several ways to meet children's needs. The rules for children are similar to those for adults, but various aspects of the game are modified. Fun Net is a version of netball developed by Netball Australia for five to seven year olds.
